This has just worked out so well that I had to share it in case someone else has similar ideas but isn't sure how to pull it off. As an audiophile/Dolby Digital/movie addict I had to have a theater in my little cabin so I started buying Alpine parts last fall. Alpine seems to have the best connectivity options in their products. Total cost was around 1G.
My head unit is a DVA-9860 - now discontinued and replaced with a newer model. Some are still around for a good price. This connects via fiber and the Alpine Ai connection to an MRD-F350 theater amp. The sub output from the F-350 feeds a MRD-M350 mono sub amp.
Speakers are an inexpensive 5 speaker satellite system and a special low-profile 10" subwoofer installed in the aft end of the storage area under the starboard side of the V-berth.
The screen is an Ebay 17" Dell refurb. All LCDs will run on 12V. I just cut off the plug from the PS and hooked it up.
The sound in the complex acoustical environment of a small cabin is incredible with no reflections, and the cheap speakers sound great with clean power behind them.
Saturday when I finished the install and rough wiring my wife and I had to sit and watch DejaVu in the driveway! I'll post some pics soon!
