I'm considering getting my kids (7&9 years old) some type of water bouncer as a joint birthday gift to use in the cove while out day boating. I'm thinking this would help keep them occupied while at anchor and allow the misses and I to relax a little bit without the constant "can we go tubing now" questions. I'm also thinking I could put my extra anchor on it and it could serve as a kinda "base station" if we had several people out with us and some wanted to go ski and some didn't, those that didn't could just hang out at the cove around the giant float. My concern is how big the thing is going to be deflated. I'm worried it'll be difficult to find storage space for it and wondering how manageable it will be as far as inflating ect. Just wondering if anyone carries anything similar on board and how it's worked out for them. Thanks.

This is the one I'm looking at:

We did the exact same thing you are considering when our kids were younger. It worked out great for all the same reasons you described. Electric inflator/deflator is a must have. It rolled up in about a 3' "cube" and fit nicely in the storage area next to the engine under the sunpad. It was about the size you are looking at.

I'd vote inflatable over the roll-up mats myself. Those mats are HUGE when they are rolled up. I really....really wanted one until I saw the size of the mat when rolled up and secured. The big ones take up almost as much space as my 10' dinghy. The folks around me that have one (and a dinghy) keep it up on the foredeck. Getting it up, down, securing it, visibility obstruction....yuck.

We have friends with a 9' inflatable "party island" that is, by my estimation, 183 times more manageable and enjoyable. My kids absolutely love it. A $20 electrical inflator shall set you free....

Thanks for the replies. I already have the air head high volume inflator/deflator for the tubes, so I'm covered there. The mats look neat, but I think they would take up too much space and I don't think the mat would be as "entertaining" for kids as the bouncer/slide combo. I've got a couple weeks to think on it, but I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on one.
