How hard was it to run the RCA cables to the head unit?

Morpheus,

fyi

My sub is under the engine hatch in the left compartment. I ran the wires in front of the motor, then behind the jump seat and then up throuh the top side compartment attaching the rca cables to the wire harness that was making the run up there already.

Yeah, similar here.

I ran the cables from the bench seat through the front lip of the engine compartment, under the jump seat, up the port side of the boat to the head unit.

All in all it was an easy install... my only problem (one which lots here assisted me on! ) was an improper splice of my remote wire.

I took the sub volume control and ran it up the starboard side to underneath the dash - near the remote control unit.

Ill try and take a few more pics next time im out.

Ooo does the basslink have wired remote control of the bass volume? That's a nice feature.

I see you have 2 power wires connected to it? 1 Ground and 1 purple which I assume is remote (I normally use blue for remote) Where is the remote volume control for the bass?

Yeah, theres a control that I mounted under my dash that controls the bass volume... and then a wire that runs to the 'remote amp turn on' lead coming out of the head unit (to basically turn the sub on / off when the radio does)

Connected wires are:
2 RCA's to HU 'non fader L / R
1 Power wire w/ inline fuse to second battery (Red)
1 Ground to second battery neg terminal (Red w/ black marking)
1 Wire going to remote lead on head unit.
1 RJ-11? cable that goes to the bass volume control.

I had to do with what I had for the wire colors...

Here's an up close pic of the wire connections

Ill get a shot of the bass volume control next time out

Thanks, I really like that setup. My only concern would be how well it would hold up to the elements down here in Florida.

Wonder if they make something similar for a marine type environment.

Thanks for the pictures.

Same here... Also, I wonder how long you could play it with the key backwards without draining your battery all the way?

Actually, its a marine version (about $100 bucks more expensive than the auto version)

All the components are 'coated' (or so they say...)

Here's more info:

I have a dual battery setup, and have yet to have any problem with draining (granted, I havent yet just had the radio on for a long period of time w/ engine off... so I cant really say for sure... :))

It's not that I don't believe you but from searching what I'm finding I think you got ripped off.

Yes Infinity makes some marine speakers but that BassLink you have I'm almost positive it's not made for marine environments. Also I found them new on ebay with remote for about $200 without remote as low as $129.

Of course Infinity's website doesn't show any marine products but crutchfield has some and the BassLink is not one of them.

I hope I'm wrong I'm gonna keep searching.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle.

Further research reveals the product is made by Prospec Electronics for Infinity who is actually owned by Harman International whom owns alot of companies.

Basically the Marine version the circuit board is coated in plastic. The product is NOT water proof or resistant so don't get it wet but it is corrosion resistant.

Very interesting. Wonder how you would tell this one from a car one.

Now it's getting interesting.

When I called Prospec Electronics they say they don't make or do anything to them infinity makes them and there is not a marine vs car product they are all the same. Prospec only distributes them.

Now if I can only get someone from Infinity to confirm all of this.

Final say by Infinity Tech support. They do not make a marine version of any of the BassLink products. They are not coated either. He said if you had a larger boat and had it in a cabin it might be fine but there is nothing protecting it from water or corrosion.

So as an alternative now I'm looking at one of the Marine Bazooka tube products with built in amp and remote bass volumn control.

morpheus, interesting detective work. This one might be worth a look

http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLMPS1000?utm_source=froogle.com&utm_medium=product_feed

I'm considering it and have seen it as low as $249 from cardomain.com

They have a low price policy too  Looks pretty nice but with that I'd have to cut a big whole and not sure if I wanna do that. Also I didn't see where it had the ability to adjust the bass volumn remotly which might be important for me if my head unit doesn't already have bass control I need to check that out as well.

As an update to this... 2 years now, and the subwoofer still performs as it did when I purchased it. No external corrosion - and EXCELLENT bass.

And Overton's does sell this subwoofer in their catalog.

Again, I dont know if they have a separate version specifically for marine use... or if its just that their sole version's parts are marine usable also... but again, its worked GREAT for me so far!
