Inboard vs V drive EC330

I'm lost now, I am looking at a 1990 310 express, the OWNER, not broker, claims has V drivs and is an express...I asked if it was a dancer, he says no, it's an express....I can't see pics of the aft deck, if it has the flat floor, or the raised dancer area...

I don't get it...and I don't want to drive 3 hours if it's a dancer

According to Sea Ray's website http://www.searay.com/Page.aspx/pageId/10532/Model-Archives.aspx

They made a 310EC and a 310DA in 1990. The EC offered engine options of sterndrive gas and diesel and inboards. The DA offered sterndrives and inboard v-drives. There was no 330 in 1990.

In 1992 they changed the 310 to a 330 and the 350 to 370. http://www.searay.com/Page.aspx/pageId/10532/Model-Archives.aspx They offered both a EC and a DA. The DA standard engine package was a 260hp Alpha1 with engine options that included 7.4/Bravo 1, diesel sterndrives from both Volvo and Merc and inboard v-drives both 5.7 and 7.4. They offered the EC with the identical engine packages EXCEPT the inboards are not v-drives but straight inboards.

Therefore one can make the following assumptions:
  1. The seller of the boat is a moron and doesn't know an inboard from a v-drive
  2. The seller is a moron and doesn't know what year his boat is
  3. The seller is a scam artist
  4. The boat is an aberration
In any event, I would keep looking. The only way you are going to really find out what he has is to go see it with your own eyes, look at the serial number for the year and the model and then open the ER hatches and what is really in there.

Yachtworld lists 21 1990-92 310/330ECs for sale in the US and Canada http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/cache/searchResults.jsp?cit=true&slim=quick&ybw=&sm=3&searchtype=advancedsearch&Ntk=boatsEN&Ntt=&is=false&type=%28Power%29&man=sea+ray&hmid=102&ftid=0&enid=101&fromLength=31&toLength=33&luom=126&fromYear=1990&toYear=1992&fromPrice=&toPrice=&currencyid=100&city=&cint=100&cint=101&pbsint=&boatsAddedSelected=-1

Good luck and happy hunting.

PS The beam on these boats is only 11"5". that is 6" narrower than my '89 340DA and my ER is tight. I looked at these boats before I bought mine and even though I liked the layout the late 80's 340 seems like a much bigger boat. These things really have a lot of space. http://www.yachtworld.com/core/list...nt=100&cint=101&pbsint=&boatsAddedSelected=-1

call the guy and ask him for the HIN. It's embossed in the transom on the rt side or it's on his registration. The last part part is all you need. Should end with 310EC (express) or 310DA (sundancer).

It's in Port stanley, oops editing, just caught the pic you posted, yes that's it...to me the vents look aft...where they would be in a Dancer...I have seen pics of an express with the three seat helm and one seat on the port side, but still can;'t tell on the floor....

I loved the way my old 340 handled, with straight shafts...and like you say, what did they do with the extra room? I guess everything that is at the stern of a straight shaft boat is forward?

Makes no sense to me, I'f I'm going thru all the hassle maintenance wise of V drives, why wouldn't you take the only advantage the boat offers,,the aft cabin..

V drives and no aft? worst of both worlds...

He must have the wrong pics up, or it's a scam...in his ad he calls it a 310 over and over, and clearly as noted above, the pic is of a 330...

I'm going to take a drive Friday too look at it...

all will be revealed lol

Couldn't agree with you more...I loved the way my 87 340 ran, she was heavy, but on Lake Huron, that was an asset, but I do like the updated styling of the 90s boats, the rounded windshield the seats and down below...my budget is forcing me to keep to boats of that age, I'd rather keep that size and go older, than go newer and smaller...

I think some people refer to any Velvet drive transmission as a "V Drive." My boat has Velvet Drive (Borg Warner) 71 series straight drive's.

well that would explain it...lol I have a BW in my Donzi...I'd never consider calling it a V drive...

we'll know in 12 hours lol..I'm going to look today...

it has BW velvet drives and is a straght drive EC....

so the confusion ends,

and no, I didn't buy it, I'll just leave it at that.....
