I just got a Garmin 160c and have a temporary mount on the transom until I figure out exactly how and where to mount everything.

I saw on a previous thread that someone mounted a transom "style" transducer as an "in hull" transducer. I understand the need for a resin or mineral mount, but I would like to know what the true performance differences are.

I don't do a lot of fishing, but my Lowrance 3500 went out and I needed to upgrade anyway.

Has anyone tested the difference in performance for transom mount versus in hull mount using the same transducer?

Thanks

You need to be careful with a transom mount because of the turbidity of the waterflow from your outdrive will have a major impact on your readings while underway. SR generally doesn't use fillers in the bottom of the boat so you won't have the usually problems with shoot through installation. You could always install a thu-hull if you like holes in your boat.

I recently mounted a transducer in the hull of our boat. After researching the topic i siliconed the transducer to a flat area in the bilge. I opted for silicone over the favoured epoxy as is seemed less permenant if anything were to go wrong. The results i have had have been excellent and the reading does not seem to be affected by the hull thickness.
I will attach some of the info i used so you can make your own mind up.
Hope this is some help.
