I have a 1998 10KW Westerbeke generator. I would like to make an effort to reduce the noise and vibration of the unit. It is "OK", but I would really like to reduce the noise of the exhaust as well as the vibration and noise in the cabin. In this I have a few questions:

Vibration: It is already on the stock vibration mounts. Do these go bad? Are there better mounts out there? Or is this a sign that my genny is not running perfectly?

External Sound: Is there a better muffler available? Or is there a better way to run the exhaust? I noticed a lot of trawlers and sailboats extend the exhaust tube into the water.

Cabin sound: It has the original sound shield. I noticed that the sound proofing material is pretty old and falls apart to the touch. I am thinking about replacing the sound proofing material with the modern foam/heat shield material found in the boating stores. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance. Any help in any area is appreciated.

For exhaust quieting, try a water separator. You will need to add a thru hull below the waterline for the water outlet. The "air" outlet can go where the wet exhaust now feeds.

New soundproofing may help, but Westerbekes typically are noisy in any event, particularly the intake.
