Hi all, I recently took my boat for warranty work to change the drive coupler so they had to haul out the motor and leg. In doing so, they discovered a small mussel in the water pump assembly so they said it had to be serviced and recommended that I change the impeller. I had it changed about a month ago using the marina guy who is much cheaper than the Mercury approved shops so that was kind of weird to be asked to change it again. The marina mechanic charged me for two hours labours. The shop had suggested to change it again since the motor and leg were out so I figured a 35 dollar part won't cost that much to install. Get this, they charged me for four hours labour at 120 per hour??? Is that reasonable given the motor and leg were out? Thanks for the advice.

First - welcome to CSR!
Next - NO!
Your info doesn't say which drive you have, but 4 hours is a long time. Seems to me the right thing to do would have been to charge you a minimum since the check you had to write was already a substantial one. That's just me. I went through a very similar situation. I didn't like being kicked while I was down & told the shop as much. After the conversation I got some well deserved relief. I guess your relationship/history with the shop comes into play. But, in my opinion, you should have the same conversation.

Again, welcome to CSR!

SR website shows a Bravo 3 on that boat meaning the pump came out attached to the engine. If so that makes an impeller change even easier. You're getting ripped off for 3+hrs of labor.

Thank you for the advice. I will be visiting the shop tomorrow to discuss, might have been an error on their part.

All bravo drives have the impeller on the engine, correct.
