Hi guys,2005 twin 443s. Split the starboard unit in half to change the impeller. Was going to put it back the exact way it came out, but half of the fins are pointing clockwise and half the fins are pointing counter clockwise. Never had any problems with temperature. Everybody said put the impeller on the shaft and spin shaft clockwise while pressing on the cover. Question is are they both the same for starboard and port? Do both the intermediate shafts turn clockwise? Both motors spin in the same direction. Thanks again. Tony

I always use some Vaseline when putting the impeller in. I try to turn the impeller in the right way but don’t worry that to much because when you hit your engine the fins will go in the right direction by it self. Of course it’s always better when the fins are in the right position.

In my opinion the port and starboard are different as wel as the props turn different. One is LH and the other RH. It shouldn’t by right if both props are turning the same direction, then you get steering torque.

Vaseline is the wrong lubricant for this. You never want to use a petroleum based lube on your rubber parts. It will break down the rubber and make the parts like the impeller fail prematurely.

Sorry had to mention acid free Vaseline
Dish soap works great too

I think the uppers are the same direction. The reversal direction gearing is in the lower unit.

View attachment 79983 Sometimes behind the impeller house you can find a direction arrow....
On our Alpha One drives, the impeller is inside the outdrive. It looks like you have a sea water pump on your engine. Little different. But thanks for tip. My generator has a sea water pump. I will look on the housing for a directional arrow.

Oeps my bad sorry...

It doesn't matter. In one rotation they will all be turned the correct way.

What’s wrong with this picture?
Alpha One Gen 2 Stbd drive of twins. Pulled the housing off and saw this. Look at the fins. Can anyone explain this?
