I just changed the water pump empellar and on start up there was grinding noise but just on start up but then goes away what have I done wrong???? and only on cold engine start up... after it runs for awhile it its fine...:smt021

The first question is...did you buy the correct impeller for your specific application and did you match it up with the old one before you installed it? How bad was the impeller that you pulled out? was there chunks of it gone and if so are you 100% sure that you removed them all? how is the water flow compared to your previous impeller prior to it going bad or needing replacement? I would strongly suggest removing the impeller and checking it for wear marks on the bushing. it sounds to me like the bushing is spinning on start up and then tightens up after it gets some water pressure on it.
