Thank you everyone for all your replies. We, as with most boater, enjoy going out with our friends on the water and we also enjoy taking people with us that does not own a boat, we, also as with most boaters, don't ask for anything in return. There seems to be a few on here that are taking a "holier than thou" stance and that is fine but just to be clear this poll was to see what the common consensus was for the friend who has become the constant free loader.

"How do I handle friends that only seem to come around during boating season?"
"I tell them to raft up!"

.....or am I being to literal?

Love your weekender. If you don't mind my asking how much does it weigh and how well does the 5.0 power it.

The number of people in the "ask for fuel money" camp is suprising to me. The way i see it is, my boat, my problems, my responsibility. If you are coming out with us, you are our guest. Bring a plate of food, special diet restriction, booze, beer......dont offer money, it is not accepted.

If i get the freeloading vibe, you wont be invited back out, and we're always busy when you ask.....

Thank you.
I believe it's around 5K dry. The 5.0mpi with the Bravo 3 combo, shoots it out of the hole pretty decent. After I added the swim platform I noticed I had to use the trim tabs more often. Before If I had one other person aboard, I didn't have to use my tabs at launch.

Some of us go on 10+ day trips; We typically split the trip costs but getting the boat ready and cleaned up after is and always has been, on me. For day or over night adventures nothing requested and nothing expected. My group of friends and guests have always brought and stocked the boat with food, snacks, and drink; that is simply the way they are.....

I have told this story before.

I had a friend and his wife visit us at our cottage. We took the boat out for a long fishing trip then back and headed out for a long cruise to a cove about 50 miles away and back. Basically drained the tanks to near empty by the return to the marina. Fuel I think was about $1.60/litre that summer.

When we get to the fuel dock, my buddy said "let me pay to fill it up". I said you probably don't want to do that, its my hosting for the day, so forget it. He said, no, let me pay.

He watched the $$$ rack up on the gas pump and was blown away. It got to a little over $500 and stopped. He said, I'll tell you what - I'll pay half. $250 for a great day is not too bad!

I told him that was just the starboard tank and we were only half way there, but $250 was fine. He was talking about buying a boat while we were out and how much fun it was. He changed his mind.

I was just talking to a non-boater and fuel tank size came up and he said you could go around the world with such huge tanks. LOL Then he was blown away by the gallons per mile...

Yup, and the punchline to that conversation is that fuel costs are not the most expensive part of boating.

I rarely get into it with non boating friends. It is hard to appreciate it all if you dont really love being out on the water.......

Survey says. Majority of boaters don't mind fair weather friends as long as their enjoying the water.
What say you? You haven't voted in your own thread yet.

That's funny, I did totally forget to vote on my own thread. I enjoy taking my friends on the water, I don't ask for anything in return we just have them bring their own snacks and beverages. I really enjoy the company of this particular friend, I just don't believe they like us as much as they like our boat.

For the most part I dont expect anything. Depending on the relationship, occasion etc I might say bring what you want to drink or bring some appetizers.... I never ask for gas money. Like I know if I invite my sister and her husband they'll bring the king size Yeti stocked up and half a deli counter of food. I would never ask them for anything, they are always more than gwnerous. BUT I do have one friend we have known for almost 20 years, who i will invite out with his family and he might say "lets go here or there for the day, I'll split gas or fill you up" He knows the score with the cost and he can be CHEAP as heck but has abundant money His wife is totally opposite, very generous in spirit. So when he offers I accept more to get him to pry his wallet open than anything else it's a perverse thrill to get him to spend money.
