Hi everyone. My name is John or I'm called JD and I just joined.
This will be my first year as a boat owner and I own a 1992 Sea Ray 300 Sundancer.
I have it docked in New Jersey at Key Harbor Marina which is in Manahawkin inside of Barnegat Bay

Would love to hear from other members who have similar boats and who can dish out some advise.

My boat is in great shape and should be readt to drop in the water around late March early April.

Thanks a lot

JD

Hey Bill. Where are you launching?

Welcome I have the same boat, not sure if your couch is to port or stbd. Mine is to port which is the only one I have seen so far. I have done many upgrades including, stereo, gps, extended platform(The Best), engines, top, electric head, windlass to name a few. I will be glad like the rest of the crew to help answer any questions. I love the size and speed as I can get 42 mph and it will stay on plane at 2800 rpm. gets about 1.1 MPG. at cruise and handles well in most seas. You can also dock it yourself which is nice for those peaceful weeknight cruises!
Good Luck with it. rob:smt038

Thanks Rob and yes they look identical.

Are you referring to the couch inside? Heres a pic of mine which is on the starboard side

Same material diff. side. mine is L-shaped. I took it out to get pricing on doing it over in "leather" and got a price of 1100 which isn't too bad but, I was hoping for 800 so I will hold off another year. The swim platform is an upgrade worth making, especially if you have kids and anchor in shallow spots. It is so big you can put the dinghy and engine on it while travelling, lying flat and it covers the drives if they are in the up position. you can also throw a couple of chairs on them. thanks for the photo. Rob

Hey Rob, you have a pic gallery of your boat? Would love to see your upgrades? Thanks

John

Sorry i don't but if you go to swimplatforms.com you can see our boat with the platform on it. I also put an amp and bazooka sub as well as upgraded speakers and stereo with the usb port. that made a big difference. I can tellyou how I hooked it all up if your interested. the windlass is a great addition as well. let me know and I can help with whatever upgrade you interested in, I am shrink wrapped now but did most of my upgrades over winters like the stereo. Sorry Rob:huh:

Also it may be a good idea to change the impellers in the outdrive (winter project) and inspect all the bellows boots etc so you are starting fresh to avoid problems. I have a good source for GLM parts which are essentially Merc copies.
do you know how old the manifolds, risers, etc are? Good stuff to know going into summer.

jd, I have had it for 3-4 years now and it was about $1800 plus shipping $350, with a 4-6 week lead time. It's best to call scott and ask. They are very nice people to deal with. Very nice product.

Yes I checked it out and it's $1895 + shipping.
Not sure I want to spend $2K this first season as I have to pay for Marina and everything else.

As for the outdrives, they are currently off the boat being serviced by the marina. Not sure how old the mainfolds/risers are but when I bought the boat in Sept, she ran very smoothly and quietly. We took the boat out several times in Long Island and she ran beautifully.

She will be getting a full going over before the season starts to make sure she's ship shape

Tel me about your stereo upgrades? I am about to install a new stereo to replace the old cassette deck and I'm gonna add a nice flat screen TV to the wall above the aft cabin

Any advice would be appreciated
JD

I added a new cd/mp3/usb player from kenwood (non marine). I would suggest taking a look at Alpine as well. they sell a unit that you can add a remote similar to the ones that are in the new boats except they are wireless and you can have more than one. I just have a handheld remote which works fairly well but not from anywhere on the boat. Infrared seems to be a better choice if you don't want to spend the extra dough or deal with wiring. I added a 6.5 " Bazooka sub under the aft seat 2" from the starbd wall. Works great but my buddy gave me an 8" same style so I am selling the 6.5. Also added a 300 watt 4 ch. Alpine Amp that I installed inthe door immediately upon entering the cabin on the port and direct wired it to the batteries (8 AWG) I also wired the Kenwood directly to the batt. for more clarity.
New Polk Audio DB651 speakers were very good for the money but I upgraded those with my xmas money to JL Audio m650 6.5". These are very nice but expensive, tested them while wrapped, sound clearer than Polks.
I bought a lot of the pieces last year when a large local retailer was going out of bus.
Must have amp, Sub of some sort, the bazooka is great because you don't have to make holes. Also a head unit can accept a memory stick so all the music is there with no cd's and is upgradeable to HD, Sirius.etc.
did all the install myself not too bad. I am not sure if you have the locker right there on the port entry? My batteries are port of the helm as well as the stereo down below. This system sounds very good for the money and only 2 speakersplus sub in cockpit. The other 2 speakers down below are just hooked up to the head unit and not the amp. Shop around on ebay etc. Look at manufacturers websites for ideas as well as this site. It is a great resource. If you want to talk live I will be happy too. not the fastest typer.
Do it once escpecially if you plan on keeping the boat. :smt024
