I'll share my 94 290 Sundancer

I wouldn't mind seeing some of your boats. It helps pass the time. Is this the longest winter in history or what?

jsturdevant, does your 29 have a genny? If so, (or from any other member with a 29DA with a single) do you happen to have a pict of where searay put it. Mine does not have a genny and I toyed around with the idea of putting one in. I have read of a couple that did and the installation total was around 9-10k. Durinf the summer it does get hot here in florida and when at the dock no problem. Most of our boating is in places where dropping the hook and enjoying way out of the way scenery. Any help with picts would be greatly apprreciated. Thanks in advance.

I do have a genny, It sits on the starboard side of the engine. Sorry I don't have a better picture. The next time I'm at the lake I'll take a better picture of the engine area. I know its nice to have a genny, but I would look at all your options before you drop $9-10k on a genny. I would consider selling your boat and buying one with a genny already in it. We bought our boat for $23k and the engine had 280hours on it and the genny had 170hours. $9-10k for a genny would almost be half the price of our boat. I'm just saying look at all your options.

I sold my 1995 290 and got my current 1997 in order to get a genny, plus a windlass and vacuflush head, because adding all those would be much more than the difference in boat models. So, I agree with Jsturdivant, it'd would likely be better to trade boats to get the generator than spend the money to add to your current boat. Here's a pic of the generator on my '97 290:

Thanks guys. I agree the cost of a genny in my boat doesn't seem worth it. Although I do like the newer searays but I prefer the older ones. I think they have much better lines. Maybe because I can relate better to them due to age . As you know Fl can get hot during the summer and ac would be nice while on the hook. Actually got my boat for an excellent price with engine that had 165hrs on it, new outdrive, gimble ring and lower unit. The boat sat for 7yrs and the previous owner before me added the new engine and outdrive, and fluu camper canvas. One of those deals that when you come across it better have cash in hand lol. Actually bought it from a member on here that simply had other intrest. Here are a few picts

You definitely have a beautiful boat MrFL54. You have a lot going with the camper top and swim platform. Darn! I wish they all came with generators.

**This is just an idea, but you could probably get a little Honda portable and put it on the swim platform when you’re coving out. Those don’t break the bank and they pack enough punch to run your A/C. They make the generators pretty quite these days. I'm thinking 50 decibels. I would do that before you sell your beautiful boat.

Drum roll please...:wow:

The practice of placing a non-marinized CO producing device on a boat is the subject of hot debate. Many consider it to be very dangerous and strongly advise against it.

Do a quick search on the board for "Honda Generator". It's nothing personal but many have had some big disagreements and some very humerous posts.

I'm not trying to be a cowboy; I was just throwing out some ideas. MrFL54 has such a nice boat; I was just trying to save him $9-10K. If portable generators suck, then scratch that idea.

Thanks for the idea and thought jsturevant. This is my 3rd searay and two out of 3 didn't have a genny. I knew before I bought it the fact of not having a genny would be an issue (minor or major or not). As others have mentioned non marine gennys do put out more CO and definatly can be more dangerous. This like mentioned has been of big debate on here. Heck before I even poste my first post on here I knew how much of a debate it was.

Now saying this I might be subject to being crusified but yes I do have a honda 1000 generator and have taken it with me. It will not power the ac. It was not for running anything simply as insurance in case I ran my battery banks down enough not to be able to start the engines. Haven't had to use it because we watch how much battery usage we use. Plus most of the time we are in a group and I can plug in to a neighbors genny. I am in the process of replacing the lighting with LED''s to cut down on the drain.

One usage we use the honda for is when we all raft up at the springs we have a friend that brings his pontoon. I have a 12 x 15ft screen and projection system with surround sound and use it to power the system on his pontoon. Our boats are about 50-70ft away and there is nothing like watching Captin Ron on a big screen at night with the echoeing of the surround sound at the springs lol. It has attracted others from the area to come over in thier dingy's, floats or whatever and simply enjoy movies with us. Got a hell of a group one weekend to where we had to keep turnning the sound up.

Now as for adding a genny to my boat, well for the price I got the boat for and adding a genny at the cost of about 10k. I could still sell the boat to someone and honestly give them a FAIR price. Might not be a great price as everyone looks for but a price that would be very palatable.

I own three baots now and the others are performance boats. I am on different forums with those. The comment of "GETTING THE POPCORN READY" is nothing new as is with anything that people differ on and debate about. Weather it be a genny or someone saying that they hit the top speed of 115mph and others knowing it isn't possible with thier boat. The main thing in any discussion is SAFETY FIRST AND FOREMOST Period.

We all come here to learn. Heck I pick up different things almost everytime. Some come on here due to not being able to use thier boats due to the cold. Now I feel for those, personally I would have to find another hobby if I could only use my boats 4-5 months out of the year (opening myself up to scrutiny here lol). All I can say is thanks for the knowledge and input from personal experiance that everyone has given. Thanks guys:thumbsup:

Honda's can't run the AC anyways, why have it? For the rest, LED lights and good batterys.
