Anybody have any ideas why the starting alarm won’t turn off right away ? I just had a tune up by my Sea Ray dealer mechanic and the alarm keeps sounding for almost a minute after the engine starts ! Then it sporadically whistles like a teapot every few seconds...Sea Ray claim it’s not from exhaust fumes , but I’m not sure. Is it possibly a battery on the alarm, or a short in the wiring ?
I had the dealer send their mobile mechanic over to look at it and he claimed it stopped for him...well guess what? Not for me when I came by later...any ideas ?

the hard alarm usually will sound from low oil pressure/no oil pressure, engine temp overheat or low outdrive oil.

Yep, he said it right, my brother had an alarm going off last year on a chaparral 240 that I sold him, I told him to check the drive oil lube monitor sure enough it was low added some gearlube and alarm turned off

I checked and the oil pressure is ok, and so is the gear lube. Will check more this weekend , thanks guys !

You can check to be sure you drive fluid switch is not defective. I have had one just be dirty and act up. Unplug after your alarm stops and it should alarm. If it does, should be good. If you shut down engine and restart after a half minute or so, does it do the same thing or just the normal beeps, start up and no alarms? Sounds like it is taking more than normal time for a sensor to get satisfied. Be interesting to know if it does it with a warm start up as well.

Yeah, check the gear lube bottle and make sure the float is working. They tend to get gummed up - if that is the case, it's easy to take the bottle off and clean it out.

Unplug the 3 sensors that BT mentioned, 1 at a time. That will tell you which 1 it is.

I tried the other day and it didn’t sound off when I did a warm engine start up, only cold start . Does that mean a sensor problem ? I’m going to try again tomorrow.

I would be suspicious of the oil pressure sensor it that case. Oil temp goes off when too hot, engine temp as well. Oil pressure when not enough. If goes off on cold start, may take a bit for it to be satisfied. With a warm start, oil pressure already primed (so to speak) and maybe enough pressure there to satisfy. Could be dirty ??? But makes sense. Sensor ghosts are sometimes difficult to track down. I once had one and it was a bent pin in the computer connection from when it was pulled off to remover fuel injector tree. Took better part of a season to find it.
