Hi to all, as someone with very little boating / mechanical knowledge im looking for some advice and guidance. I own a 1999 180LE Searay Bowrider. It's fitted with a 3l mercruiser 4cyl engine. Ihave had problems recently with the engine stopping and mis-firing. I think i have this sorted but I still have a couple of issues.
1) I've just replaced the ignition coil as the tachometer was jumping sporadically. Hoping this would fix the issue. Now I've got the new engine coil the tacho is flying way too high. Does changing the coil alter the readings and if so what do i need to do to solve this?
2) I've also noticed that the two wires (Pink and Black) which run from the coil to the distributor. When i move / lift these 2 wires by the ignition coil the engine starts to die. Why does this happen, should I worry and how do I fix this or do I need to fix this.

Many thanks for all your help in advance.
Matt

01. remove the tach and wipe the switch back and forth a few times and reset it back to "4".
02. replace the ends with new ones as they may not be crimped tight enough and be making a poor connection.
