I have a 1988 seville 100hp o/b motor and the slowest idle speed is 5mph and in neutral revs at 1500rpms... this is way to fast to get in my slip with ease. whats the best way to adjust the idle down. Should i adjust it at the throttle lever or at the motor, which is the easier fix. Thanks

I am having a similar problem with mine and am looking for advice too without duplicating a post. I have the same boat, same outboard, same problem.

I had the throttle cables re-done a few years back and the throttle stick still moves easily (it isn't stuck or hard). My problem is that in neutral the outboard idles at 1200rpm. When going from neutral to forward you can hear a slight grind of the teeth as you press the stick forward and then "CLUNK!" it grabs and goes. From neutral to forward without adding any throttle but still under load, the engine runs at 750rpm. I have tried adjusting the two carb screws that it lists in my outboard service manual and have gotten the idle to decrease but have yet to have any luck at low idle (750rpm in neutral) without the engine stalling. Fuel filter is clean and all ports are clean. New plugs. New gas.

Could the throttle cable be adjusted to be too tight? Could the carb screws be my solution? Any help would be much appreciated so I dont completely strip the gears in the engine.

Thanks! and good luck too shredstick with your issue

I also have the clunk sound when going into gear, it can't be good for it. I think it has something to do with the high rpms in neutral. It sounds like we've got the same issue brybaker. keep me posted if you figure anything out.

Took it to a mechanic and one of cyclinders was missing... and to compensate the previous owner turned one of the idle screws way up. Runs perfect now low rpms at netural and no clunk when engaged in gear
