Scary isn't it? I have thought about the same thing while making copies at work.

I think I will follow up with IT and send them the link. I hope they have some good answers.

Hmmm, I wonder what kinkos does about wiping those drives.

Thanks for posting that. I am ending a contract with ESI this month! Great timing for me to get that info.

I'm going to start offering services to wipe copier drives for resellers or businesses that just purchased a used copier! I own an IT business, so maybe I can get a few new clients offering up this service!

I saw that video a couple of days ago and about sh!t. I thought the whole digitization was done on a RAM Chip that was wiped every time.

DAMMIT!

Rono - market it to the user who is dumping the copier - these things get cycled out the door at an unbelievable rate.

Great post Gary.

There are some precautions that you can take to prevent Identity Theft.

You can Freeze your credit with three credit reporting agencies. You don't need to pay Lifelock to do it. You can do it yourself. I froze mine several years ago. One piece of advice, when they mail you a PIN, don't loose it. It is a real pain to unlock your credit without the PIN. I just bought a new house and needed to unlock it for the mortgage and it was a real pain to find someone at the agencies to unlock it. Their websites do not advertise this option and their phone numbers are dead ends. They all want to sell you a service. You don't need to pay them to lock it. You can also get a free credit report once a year.

Good luck!

Holy Crap! I'm with you Scott, count me in that 60% too.... Gotta be more careful in the future.. The little home copiers don't do this, do they?? Todd

The scary thing about this one is YOU have no control over it... Every company or entity you have EVER interacted with and made copies internally is exposing your deepest darkest secrets...

OK... I play with legos... I'll come clean here first.

xerox started offering overwrite and wipe clean services in 2007. You can also buy the hard drives at the end of your xerox contracts and destroy them yourself. We are looking at that option and will likely do that when our contracts expire.

I play with legos too! It's like we're brothers....scary. I used to play with tinker toys as well, but don't tell anyone.

Besides Logos and Tinker Toys, I was a Lincoln Log fan from the beginning and made large-scale log "spaces" as a kid.
