If I pull the IAC muffler out of the throttle body, what should I hear if everything's working well?

When I do it I hear a very loud whooshing from the air getting sucked in. Should I expect that to die down as I open the throttle and the IAC isn't needed? Is it passing air to some extent all the time? I have a feeling the one on my port engine is always open - but if I pull the wiring plug the engine idles at 400rpm so I think the pintle is able to move.

Is there a way to tell by ear that the IAC valve is doing its job?

Thanks!

It's there to muffle the air and the IAC will idle the boat to what the ECM tells it to, around 600 650 rpm. If you unplug it and idle changes it is working. Please use the foam muffler
