    Greetings!

Does anyone know of a person/place &/or can recommend a person/place to paint a 45' bridge boat from the rub rail up in the Catawba Island, OH area?

    Thank you!

You would need to go around the tip of the mitt to Grand Haven, MI, but North Shore Marina has a building set up for painting big boats. They do nice work. Would be a nice cruise over.

Interesting that you're looking to paint from the rub-rail up. I would think that would be a difficult and complex paint job? It seems most folks paint their colored hull-sides gelcoat. Are you painting same color as existing gelcoat?

As Blueone said Brands use to be a great place for all types of repairs and painting but I don't think they are in that mode now as their top guys have retired just this year. Call Bryan and see what he says. You might give a call to Kevin at ship shape in Port Clinton. I know they have done several boats over the years. Brands have painted over the years at least 5 of my boats. Excellent

There is a point where the gel coat is effectively buffed off the boat. The OP didn't post the year of his boat but if it is in the 1980s-1990s vintage......that is a problem that eventually shows up on older boats.

The good news is marine paints are far more durable and require less maintenance. The trick like most things is to find craftsman who have solid references and a great history. All the labor is in the prep work.

Above the rub rail is far more susceptible to problems.

Thank you all for the replies.

It's a 1972 Hatteras. Hull is great and the PO had the bridge done, but as you can see from the photo, the deck and from the rub rail UP is hit. I would like to have the bridge redone as well so it will all match(deck/bridge).

I can fix, redo, upgrade, restore anything else that needs to be done but painting is out of my wheelhouse. It would have to be splashed and taken via the water to a facility that has a hoist, too big to haul down the road to Mirror Image's paint shop from Catawba Island.

That is exactly the type of project North Shore Marina knows how to do well. And, it is one of the easier ones I have seen them do. Not cheap however.

I'll definitely keep them in mind... Thank you.

I know it's not going to be cheap, I'm hoping to spend $20,000-$30,000 at most. $35,000-$40,000 or more will put me over budget with our other plans we have in store.

I'm going to meet with Kevin(?) at Ship Shape Marine and see what he has to say. Brands is not painting at this moment from what I understand.

There's mention that the bridge could be sanded s/lighty and buffed out to where all we'd have to focus on is the deck & gunwales.

The nice thing about Hatts is they are simple designs. You do not have all kinds of creases, decals and complicating design features to work around. To get a great result, I'm thinking you will need to remove the rails. Hopefully there is good access for getting them off. I have seen those removed and suspended from the ceiling while work is being done. Probably would save some labor and prevent accidental damage if that can be done. Post pix of the project when you do it. Should be fun to watch.

First thing ithought was "good time to rebed everything". Have friend with a 53, that is a very sharp roomy boat. I must add you have been through quite a few boats in a short period of time ,i hate when that happens to me. Well sort of.

Alexseal has a roller additive that makes the paint able to be rolled and look as good as a spray job. Maybe find a shop that has experience with that, will be way less expensive.

I thought about doing a roll on job myself but like I said, marine painting is out of my wheelhouse. The PO did the bridge that way and it turned out decent. I think he used Awlgrip or something.
