So I have always been a bar soap manly man. All that talk about scum in your sump and using liquid soap I decided to give it a try this year. First wifey found some nice manly body scrub so that was fine. Second after a couple of weekends on the boat the sump was super clean after several showers. I have officially converted on the boat and happy with the results. Thanks for the tips from all you fellow “clean sumpers”

Toss one of those Clorox toilet cleaner pucks in the sump and you'll be amazed how clean it stays.

Isn't bleach a little harsh on things down there? I'd be concerned it would accelerate the wear on the box, seals, caulking, pump, float, lines, et cetera.

The liquid soap is definitely better for keeping things clean, along with running the water for a few sump-pump cycles afterwards so there is just clean water left in there.

It was recommended by quite a few folks on another thread. I had the same concerns as you, but they all said they had no issues.

Nope learned that too.... destroys your Joker - one-way valves. No bleach tabs in my sump

Along with the liquid soap, a scoop of NoFlex washed down the drain twice a month keeps mine perfect…..when we bought this boat, one of the first things I checked was the shower sump and I wish I had taken before and after pics. PO had no doubt used bar soap and the pump, hoses, wires, and float switch were all coated with 1+” of hard soap and would not function. Before replacing it all, I opened the top and added 2-scoops of NoFlex and left it for the week. Came back, flushed it all out and 90% of it was gone. To date, all works perfect!!
