I think I finally found a good boat that's priced well/fair

And lastly, I believe many boats never hit the advertising; someone comes to sell or trade at a brokerage and the brokerage has a willing buyer ready, instantly...
You're describing the housing market int he Boise Valley right there. I see signs go up in front yards that say "Pending". Incredible!

Well, I found another 2004 Crusiers Yachts 370, a little further from home in Oriental, NC. I have not seen it yet, broker accepted my offer pending my inspection, review of service records and sea trial with deposit. If both pass I will move forward with sea trial/survey, engine checks and oil analysis. This one does not have the door to the forward stateroom, which is my preferred layout.

It's been on the market for a while and at least the 2nd broker so I am cautious.

This is her

Good looking boat, but the name? That was just about the first thing I had to address on mine once I got her home. "Hotdamalama"? Puh-leeze!
The shower in there is to die for!

Knowingly withholding knowledge of a problem is BS, and I think illegal in the house buying world. Am I correct? I'd try to figure if a boat (qualifying as a 2nd home) would fit in the same "rules" and give the OP some recourse to recover funds he wasted.

Last time I checked, here in Oregon, it's illegal on vehicles as well. If it's going through a dealer or broker, it has to be disclosed. Private party, not so much.

Agreed, I googled the boat name, turns out it's a country song, go figure.

Write into the contract "must remove name in such a way that pleases Poseidon prior to transfer of ownership" :)

Are you settling a bit with this one? I wonder if more inventory opens up in the spring? The lack of a door and an angled berth...both kinda deal breakers on my short list. But not having a boat is a bit of a deal breaker for the admiral so I can see where compromises can sometimes be required...

No, I am not settling. This one was on my short list, the prior one was closer to home and "appeared" to be in better condition, which is why I went to look at it first. I actually prefer the "open concept" layout more than having a door as well. The angled bed gives me more room (I am tall) and the GF and I will not be sleeping in the same bed anyway :) .

You are right, inventory may open up, but it's a roll of the dice where prices will be. I prefer to not take the risk, again, and they continue to rise. Maybe it's just me, but on bigger boats like this one I am seeing price reductions and more inventory right now online. For example there is a for sale diesel version of this same boat in NC that I looked at 2+ years ago when it was for sale. It's back for sale at $134k. Broker says the seller will take $125k. I'd love to have diesel though I cannot justify $35k more for diesel as a river boater who may occasionally go out on the Bay. And I have been kicking myself for not buying your year/make/model with diesel at $85K a little over a year ago from a boating buddy.

Mrs. Robinson....I sincerely hope this boat is the one. You've been through hell with the process and I for one agree you are justified in your diligence. I would not just roll over and drop 100K of my hard earned money on a "dog with fleas!"....I don't care what the market is. As far as doors and angled beds go.....it will be a non issue if and when you own her. Good luck to you!

Looks like a nice layout down below. I the engine room maintenance friendly?

It's not bad, it's not great. Front of the engines access is good, port/starboard outside not so much but doable. I can get to the seacocks/strainers, raw water impellers, winterization places, etc.

And here we go again. My offer was accepted with an email response from the broker last Sunday. I still don't have a seller signed contract though. When I asked the selling broker why not, he said the seller is looking for service maintenance receipts, that they can't find any of them. I put this clause in the contract, that I'd like to see all service and maintenance records prior to sea trial and survey. Especially since the selling broker told me about all the recent work done to the boat including risers and manifolds, and how well care for the boat was.

I will try to "say" this with as much respect as possible - It seems you want a pristine, virgin boat at a used up whore price - multiple threads and hundreds of posts of jerking off and still no boat

Wow. I'd hate to see a post from you when you are disrespectful..
Too funny….title of this thread should be... “How to buy a boat with a 1,000 of your closest internet friends ” :D:D

Going through a similar process with a slow, and often clueless broker. Quick synopsis of the last 2 weeks.
Sunday AM-Broker: When is a good time to call you today?
Me: Anytime today will be fine
No call/text/email at all on Sunday

Tuesday 330pm phone call message from broker: I'm free for the next half hour, if you don't get a chance to call then I will absolutely call you tonight after 9pm.
No call from broker

Thursday evening broker text: Can I call you tonight or will it be too late?
Me: I'm up till midnight, call anytime

Thursday evening phone call. "Just checking in you to see if you still had any interest in the boat. It's been a while since we've talked and wanted to see what I should tell the owners since I will be seeing them Friday evening." Me-"Ummm, I sent you a written offer via email 11 days ago...."
Broker "I've been soooooo busy with personal things I had to take off work. Let me back track through my emails. I'll be in touch immediately after I see the owners Friday evening."

Saturday....text from broker with 2 offer scenarios. Price with required service completed and price with me taking on the service.

I'm not thrilled with either pricing scenario. Not the point.....just relaying my recent experience with a very clueless and unprofessional broker who happens to be extremely close friends with the sellers.

Frustrating!

Sounds like the broker I've been dealing with. I've never actually even talked to the guy. It's all emails, I've called and left voicemails no return calls. It takes him 2 to 3 days to reply to an email.

I wonder if the actual sellers know how lazy these brokers are.

My last two boats I used a broker of my choice to find and close on the boat I specified. I specifically did not use the listing broker.
It seems to me that any broker that is listing for a seller has an intrinsic conflict of interest representing a buyer for the same boat.
