Last night I decided I would drive up to our summer cottage on Georgian Bay to check things out. Then I woke up this AM. looked out the window, and like Groundhog Day, I saw my shadow .....and this view out the window. Thats about 25 miles of what should be open water.

So this afternoon I drove to the Marina to check on the vessel. She looks very sad:

And then this view. I think my slip needs shovelling out. I will complain to the Marina manager.

So, tears in my eyes, head down and pouting I drive back to the cottage to cry in my beer. I crack a cold one and sit down at the window table, and I look out the window to this view. Wait a second... What is that sliver of gold on the horizon????? .... Can it be?......... Are my tears clouding my vision?.....No. It is a sliver of open water!!!!! I can see glimmering waves!!!!! So take the guns out of your mouths you northerners.... only six more weeks till spring!!!!!

it's a mirage!!! 6 more MONTHS of winter

Ok, this is just getting silly. Here is the view out of our cottage today. April 6th. That is still a lot of ice. That is a strip of open water out there, but the ice between here and there is very thick. The good news is that the water level is up over a foot from this time last year, and that is before any spring melt. I think we will have a good recovery of water levels this year for the second year in a row. (not that it matters if its covered in ice though).

Wow....I took my winter cover off yesterday and put up my Bimini enclosure. I feel like a Florida guy!

The southern part of Georgian Bay, just north of Wasaga Beach and across from Collingwood.

I'm thinking that all of the ingredients are there for a violent breakup if the get some strong winds out of the NW (the prevailing wind). Could make for a lot of docks board in the water...

Finally a decent weekend here too. Was able to get the shrinkwrap off and start un crating the platform.

I go in on Wednesday. Here's a picture my slip neighbor took yesterday. We had ice completely out two weeks ago.

Agreed, Wasaga is worried about the Nottawasaga River not being able to drain properly. They requested the CCG to break up the mouth when they bring the first ship into Midland.

Same here Ken. 73* here yesterday, 75* today, 78* tomorrow and 70's throughout the week. I put the top down on the car yesterday and it likely will stay down until mid-October. I only put it up if it threatens rain....oh, and did I mention we live in a desert climate and get 300 days of sunshine a year and almost no rain. :smt038
