I have a 2004 220sd with the stock clarion stereo. There are three pairs of wired RCA inputs in back. When I attach my I Pod to two of the pairs, nothing happens. However, when I attach it to a specific pair, the sound comes out of the front speakers only. It will do this when the stereo is set to Aux but will even do it when it is set to CD or Tuner. In the latter two instances, the IPod will play out of the front speakers and the CD or Tuner will play out of the back. Does anyone have experience in getting an IPod or MP3 player to play out of all four speakers? Thanks in advance for your help.

Mine was not installed properly. I just connected the other cable.

The 3 sets of RCA connectors are Front Pre-Out, Rear Pre-Out, and Aux Input. I cannot remember what color the inputs are, but I think they are the ones on the red wires. Once connected there, your Ipod should play through all speakers when the unit is set to Aux. If not, check the fader / balance controls.

Red is for the Aux In. The Grey and Black pairs are for the pre-amp out for front and rear respectively.

pm me your email address and I can forward you a pdf of the wiring diagram for the CMD4 which is the same for the XMD3 as well.

I think something is a little screwed up because I didn't have the problem with any of the radios I have had. I would check all the connections.

I think the problem is that people, including myself, look for the red connectors and not the red WIRES the first time around. W2F is correct you need the red pair of WIRES that come out of the back of the radio. On the end of the pair of red WIRES you will find a red connector and a white connector plug your Ipod in and it will work.

For the record I did the same thing the first time I hooked up my Ipod.
