Your tow vehicle looks a little small for a sundeck. Better buy a larger truck first.

:smt017 he has a Nissan Titan Truck and it has a v8 5.6-liter engine that can tow up to 9500 lbs. it should pull any of the sundecks without a problem

Ok, I'm just a little confused.............

You say: " buisness is going down hill again this month si i cant do anything right now anyway."

So, what value is anyone else's opinion, and why waste the dealer's and your salesman's time if you know the time isn't right for you to make a move?

yea i know.. sometimes im hardheaded.. i can get into the same payments just a longer term. so basically im just getting a different boat if i decided.. lol

You of course DO realize the complete insanity :smt101 in this line of reasoning?

To a certain extend . . .you are right in that if you have a $12K loan with 5 years, 6.25%. . .you can rougly maintain the same payment on a 20 year loan for 30K at 7%.

Just remember. . .you don't get ahead by paying interest to finance a *depreciatiing* asset. And you certainly don't get ahead keeping boat a boat SALESMAN employed. I think you need to slow down and get more money together.

I said it earlier, and I'll say it again. It's very easy to get in trouble because you can finance for so long. I wouldn't be surprised if folks were financing boats for 30 years soon (I know they are for really big ones already). I guess if you are resigned to having a boat payment for the rest of your life, you can do what you're thinking about doing. But I can tell you from experience, there is nothing better than owning your rig outright. Sure, there will always be a bigger boat out there, but some of those guys can't even afford to put gas in them. If you only owe 12K on your boat, you're off to a great start. Just hang in there.

Go get something for it that you don't need to finance! I see from your pix you already have nice chartplotter. How about full canvas? New anchor? Spending 1,000 outright is a lot better than financing a new boat over 20 years.

Of course, if you can't resist, I will be jealous and will need to see lots of pix of your new boat.

p.s. watch one of those repo man shows

you should stick with the "new" boat you currently own. it looks good, performs well, easy to tow and you have fun on the water, right? everything will cost you more, time and money, owning a sundeck, especially in the 25ft range. whether it is fuel costs, cleaning the boat or having maintenance performed on it. that's a big jump from your 185. i was at marinemax yesterday checking out the 210 and 220 selects and a 185 was next to those boats. i didn't realize the size difference, especially the difference in beam and freeboard, compared to the 185. i liked the look of the 200 sundeck as well.

I think Wesley's point should be considered... If you just bought the boat this year and paid $24K, are you comfortable losing the $7K in such a short period of time? I also am looking to trade up to a cruiser later this year, but knew that going in so I opted to buy my 2005 180 sport used (about a year after the original owner bought it). He took the depreciation hit, I didnt. I paid cash for the boat, but I only paid $13K to him...he paid around $20K the year before. I could probably get close to what I paid for it now a year later.....If I bought new, I couldnt do that yet without losing alot of money. I know its hard when you get the itis, but if I were you, I would enjoy the new boat for awhile and get more of your moneys worth before you take the depreciation hit. Just my.02 :smt001

Its your decision though...if you are comfortable with a new deal, you can swing it financially, and it makes you happy, go for it. But from what you said, you are in the same boat as me....I would love to trade up NOW...but I really need to pay off some other bills before I add the new boat payment. Look at it this way...you are out on the water now....it could be worse.

I'll go ahead and add my .02

Right now your in a sport boat, it's small and gets around quick. Your looking at a sundeck you'll like the room of the 240 over the 220. It's a sport boat as well.

Are you going to stay a sport boat kinda person or are you really a cruiser type of person.

If you upgrade to this sundeck 6 months down the road are you going to have itis again and need bigger?

Have you been out on a sundeck yet? Maybe you should go out with someone on theirs or atleast get MM to take you out on it so you have an idea.

If you think down the road you will wanna go bigger then a sundeck I would keep what you got and pay it off as quickly as possible. Once you do that save up a nice big down payment and then buy a 1 or 2 year old bigger boat then the sundeck.

This is our basic plan pay down/off the current boat save up for a large down payment on a 310DA or larger.

THanks for all the responces... after reading all the posts.. I really might just stay with my boat.. I DO want a BIGGER boat.. its so crampt on my boat that its hard to even grab an anchor sometimes.. but MY BOAT IS NEW.. this is the first BIG NEW thing i ever owned.. all my past cars were preowned and all my houses were not new built. Im just scared of what the pervious guy didto the sundeck that might blow up in my face and my pocket.. at least with my BRAND NEW boat i know whats going on with it and what ti expect.. ill just wait it off and not even call the dealer back or return his calls cause if he gets me in there ima go for it. i know imyself..

The one thing i like about the sundeck is the spot in the tip of the bow to store the anchor.. this is the biggest problem with my boat.. i store it in the locker below and to open it everyone has to practically stand on a seat so it can swing open.. and then i gotta have two anchors stitting on the deck floor scratching everything up. I wanted something that would be more roomier.. maybee with a head. something i can maybee take to further destinations then my current boat.. Im a big guy i need something a little bigger to feel comfortable in. i allways go out with ; me, my wife, son and most of the time annother person. so most of the time isa 4 to 5 people (skinny light weight)... My boat has no storage.. cant take umbrellas for the islands or too many things.. but ALL IN ALL my boat is BRAND NEW and does the job for now.. The only thin keeping in my boat is thats its BRAND NEW. Maybee ill just have someone come out and fixthe little scratches and buff it out and make her look better then she currently does.

you guys are great.

anchor storage

suggestion ... get a plastic milk crate from a grocer (you can buy used from the milk wholesalers) and store your anchor rode and chain in it. Tie the end to the crate. Make sure your anchor is small enough to fit completely in the crate. You have a small boat and it should work fine.A file container from office max is to whimpy. You can even make a top and use it for an extra chair or work surface. Make everything washable.

Good decision on keeping you boat. :smt001

crock - no matter what kind of boat people have, people end up always wanting the next sized one up. That's just how it is when you are a boater... the funny thing is that some of the people who have the big boats wish they had smaller ones - easier to clean, less $ going out the door for gas, etc.

Enjoy your boat! It is beautiful. Ask yourself if being able to store an umbrella is worth another $10,000 at this point. Probably not.

Ignore the dealer. Don't go the dark side with over inflated boat payment debt...

I have the same boat as you and know the storage isn't the greatest on it, but I can say we've been able to work it out pretty well. First, store your anchors in the bow under one of hte seats, There is carpet under there, so you won't scratch anything and when you need access to the anchors only one person has to move. Store your bumbers (2 of them) under the other bow seat, again easy access. We keep our extra life jackets in the storage by the engine as well as the covers for the boat, deflated tube, spare parts (prop, prop nut, prop hub, spare drain plug etc). You can put your beach umbrellas and other long things in the floor storage so you can get them out after everyone is off the boat. I don't know if you have them on your boat, but In 2007 they offered storage tubs under the rear seat as an option, you may want to see about having these added, should be rather cheap and offer some more storage for you.

I wanted a new Toyota Tundra, but after looking at the $40K price tag I spent $200 on a tonneau cover for my truck and was and still am happy with my 04 Dodge. I am the worst at wanting newer, bigger, nicer than what I have, but it doesn't always make sence to do it. My dealer sitll has the Blue 240 Sundancer that I want sitting on their lot, but the 60K plus price out the door is why it's not mine yet.

Hope this helps!
Charlie

Well. . .honestly. . .the 185 is sort of an entry boa => not surprising you want bigger. The two big advanatages of the 185 are the small size (easy trailering) and small price tag (easy on the retirement fund).

Although I have never trailered, from the looks of the boats a 22 or a 24 are about as large as I would go and still be on a trailer. I personally got a 28. . but in so doing I completely wrote off the trailer option.

Financially. . .I went older . . .and I do not feel a slave to the boat. I still have both fuel money and toy money.

Although this may be herasy. . the 22-24 deck boat market is VERY competitive. SeaRay is NOT your only choice. When I was shopping I liked the Crownline 22 and Chapperal 24 much better than the SeaRays. I was looking at all three in the used market.

Of course. . .as you go bigger, then the SeaRays really shine in my mind.
