I hit the mother load

hahaha, I know what you mean. But when I've paid $3.89/gallon just a few weeks ago, $3.39 was a nice find. MUCH better than cash back  It's no cash go out. I've clocked 50 hours on my boat already this year so my fuel budget has already gone out the window. But I'm a cheap bastard. I'll spend the whole weekend fixing a $10 fan. I would wait for the tide to go out and ride the current to the fuel dock. I save leftovers from the night before and make Mike's breakfast surprise. Right now i'm going on 4 months looking for the best deal on a dinghy. I put everything on my credit card for the miles, I don't think I've bought an airline ticket in 8 years, all free. But I don't seem to have a problem dropping a big chunk of change on floating fiberglass :smt101

50 hours so far? And you are in NY? I am almost jealous! I think I have about 10 hours on my boat so far. Although, to be fair, my Cuddy competes with other water toys on the weekend.

I *used* to be cheap. That was before I bought my boat! I thought gas was going to be the killer. Its not. Its the maintenance! The scheduled maintenance will probably equal my gas costs this year. Then there is the "unscheduled maintenance".

The killer this year (I hope!) will be my "upgrades". I replaced a broken $99 depth finder with a $1300 chartplotter sounder combo last month. I am now quoting replacement cockpit carpets.

I don't tell the other half what the true expenses are :smt018

I am (almost) happy when I fill up, because that means the boat is working and I can burn fuel! I am in a good mood in the gas dock. It often takes me 40 minutes at cruise throttle to get the 1/4 mile to the gas dock, and it takes four people to help. (I think there MIGHT be a shorter route than going half way down the bay and back. . . . But I really NEED a blonde in a bikini to get me water from the cockpit fridge. . . )

OK. . . .I have a new gripe.

"Resetting of financial pain threshold".

I thought buying a $100 gizmo was expensive. Then I got a house. Then I did not blink at a $500 bill for something. Now with a boat. . . .geez. . I think $500 a week is ok.
