The boat I'm looking at the Sport 175 with the 3.0 L is in the shop getting pre summer tune up. After the owner gets it back he'll put it in the water for me and we'll go from there. after a test drive. I am focusing on fresh water boats only and white hulls. I like the 175 because I don't want a large boat...and don't want a Bayliner or one of those lower end models.

Did the Sea Rays come with the Dolphin fin on the cavitation plates of the stern drive ? I see some boats have them and some do not. why ? I never had an outboard with one.

Can the snap in carpets be added ? I like the idea of having them removable.

No, those fins were never standard issue. In some cases, they help with performance - in others, they actually diminish performance. Try it for a while with it on there, in different situations, then try it without it. Don't worry if it's bolted on - the holes that are left typically don't cause any issues, whatsoever.

Which year 175 are you talking about? In some years, it would have had glued-down carpet. Are you talking about removing the carpet and then adding snap-in? Or does the model you are looking at have a bare, gelcoated floor? In later years, snap-in carpet was an option. Yes, of course - you can add snap-in carpets from a place like Corinthian Marine or Snap-In Carpets. Over the last few years, though, 'snap-in' carpet has now become snap-in vinyl weave carpeting. More durable and doesn't stay wet.

the boat I'm waiting to see is a 2003. It has a history of no ethanol gas.

I have found half a dozen with 50-100 hours but I am leaning away from the colored hulls and salt water cities.

I don't know how much a 2010 model cost new but I see them today with 100 hours for $9000-$10000

Forget about the hours. 100 hours... even 500 hours is nothing. Maintenance history and engine health is much more important.

Can you buy a replacement tonneau cover for the bow and from the windshield back that fit the factory snaps ?

I had a 2009 175 with the snap on carpet. After the first outing I took it out, rolled it up and stored it in the garage. I found it to be more of a hassle than a benefit due to it getting wet. For such a small deck space I found the non skid floor to be just as attractive and easier to keep clean.

Yes - whether you buy it through a place like Great Lakes or have it made locally. If you buy it, it will come 'blank' and you'll need to line up/attach the snaps.

Generally replacement canvas comes without snaps installed. You (or the installer) adds the snaps to match the existing studs on the boat.
