Had to put down my 21 year old cat a few years back
We had been through highschool graduation and college
3 marriages and divorces
Several states and jobs
She never asked for anything...loved me no matter what.
She is missed every day but it gets better
New buddies are out there...heal a bit and let one pick you out
My prayers are with ya brother

Thoughts and prayers for you. To many, but not all, our pets are a part of the family. It sounds as though this is true for you too. Take solace in the fact that what you are doing is the right thing and your dog knows this too. She is no longer in pain. Remember the good times and, if you believe, know that you will see her again.

Howard, At least she will be at peace and no more pain. We are left to feel the hurt and to remember the good times. I hope your pain is short and your memories are long.
 
It is so hard to make that decision. I had to put down my 17yr old lab a few years ago. Even though you know it's right, it's never easy. I'm very sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. I can understand what you are going through we just had our 17year cat at the vets and they pulled all her teeth. Hopefully she will be around for a few more years.
 
So sorry - we lost our dog the week before Christmas - it is tough.
 
Our sympathy's go out to you and your family. I understand what you are going through, we just had to do the same tonight to Nellie our Jack Russell Terrier of 14 years.
 
Howard, I share your pain. In my life I have had 4 dogs, of which I had to put down 3 of them. But this poem sums it up
Treat me kindly, my beloved guardian, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for your love and kindness than mine.

Do not break my spirit with harsh words or with a stick, for although I would forgive you, I learn much better through your patience and understanding the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when I hear you call my name.

Please want me with you always, for my joy springs from your attention, and I ask no greater glory than your love and the privilege of your company.

Please keep my bowl filled with fresh water, and feed me clean food that I may stay well to romp and play. I live to be with you and make you happy; to walk by your side, standing ready to protect you with my own life should your life be in danger.

And, dearest one, if my suffering is too great, please see that my leaving is gentle and loving, and that you stay with me to the very end as I have stayed with you.

Sorry, Howard. It's never easy, but you're right she is in a better place now and will always be by your side in spirit.
