Yeah it's only "recommendations" but once they get their foot in the door...

It wasn't enough to get the exemption for recreational boaters re-instituted at the national level. Here comes the NJDEP AGAIN.

Oh, and get ready for E-15, while we're on the topic of "foot in the door."

I swear this crap makes me want to SCREAM!!!!!

hmm lets see. I haven't made a law today. Hey I know, I can make a boat washing law. I don't have a boat so what do I care. How much revenue can we generate from owners washing their boat?

This is what JG and BK wish for. Some left wing nut doesn't own a boat, probably works for ACORN too. See's somebody washing their boat and says "Hey, they are using soap. Look, it's going in the water. What about second hand soap effect?"

I think all boat soap is biodegradable? At least I've never seen any that's not.

First its the smokers. Now its those damn boat washers. Next, we'll find a way to get at the boaters with dirty boats. Then the fat, gay, drunk boat owners with dirty boats.

Oh... I just sent Mr. Corzine an email letting him know about that horrendous nitrogen problem that ya'll are having up there in your tires. That just toasts my oaties. I think he'll find a way to tax that nitrogen right out of them. Glad I can be of some assistance.

Quit whining. Its George Bush's fault. :smt021

Actually. . the power cost of making N2 is not insignificant. N2 filled tires is not at all ecofriendly.

Fortunately, I am at a "dock", not a slip. And my boat is washed and powerwashed at my house.

And I would like to see a marina where "water management" and "drain to bay" are not equivilent.

what about the millions of people washing their cars in their driveways? But boat owners need a law, yeah.

Excerpt from "The Harbor News," which is a newletter published by SilverCloudMarina/The Marina at Tall Oaks/Wilbert's Marina, Forked River, NJ...

As of June 1, 2009, the DEP has rules and regs that affect the Vessel Wash Water disposal process. In the past marinas and their coustomers were allowed to wash their boat hulls and bottoms within the parameters of a Storm Water Permit that was available for a fee, from the NJ Dept of Environmental Protection. However the DEP has recently enacted new stricter guidelines, in order to ensure hat the waters are not poluted with the residue from bottom paints, heavy metals (from zincs), oils and antifreeze (from engines), or even from boat cleaning solutions.

To accomodate these new, very strict regulations, marinas are to install Vessel Wash Water Systems that will reclaim all the water from power washing boat bottoms, strain it for solids, clean the water, recycle the water and dispose of all contaminants into the town sewer system and solids to a dumpster. These systems are to be installed at the marina operator's expense. Marinas and customers that do not comply will face fines from the DEP.

Reasons for these new regs??
1. Fees and Fines
2. Appease the TINY percentage of voters that give a s*#t about these environmental witchhunts
3. Put even more of a strangle-hold on small business owners (namely, the marina owner).
4. Allows the government to save us from ourselves

Reminds me of the old BTO song, "Ba Ba Baby you ain't seen nothing yet!"

Not sure you have enough stutters in there ;-)

It's all right here... http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/pollution.html

"Eighty percent of pollution to the marine environment comes from the land." I also read somewhere at one time, that only 1% of ocean polution comes from boating. 90% of that is commercial boating.

So yeah, let's go after the .1% of the problem with laws. That will save us!!

Politicians are NOT interested in the facts. They are interested in agenda, generating revenue and votes. THAT IS ALL. If there was a way to generate taxes by supporting the flat earth or geocentric theories, they'd bring it back and ignore the photos from space.

I think Algore and Michael tyler moore are making a non-documentary on that now.

You missed the nitrgoen filled tire thread, didn't you? The nitrogen that we are speaking about makes up about 20% of the air we breathe. Not only is it ecofriendly, but its absolutely necessary for our survival. Unless we can find a way to make air without all of its components.

:smt101 I don't think Comsnark missed the thread but somebody did.:smt043

Guys this is nothing new. Remember the EPA and the Clean Water Act, late 70's I think. Tougher regulations to controll point source and non point source pollution have been sprouting up ever since. 20 some years ago we were required to catch the wash water off our equipment. We added a couple bays to the shop just for pressure washing and put in a collection system. The joke of it was that at that time all the water and sludge we collected was ok to field dump like regular septic waste.

Not to digress. . . . .but it actually takes quite a bit of energy to get that 20% of O2 out of the air we breath to produce pure Nitrogen. The most efficient large scale operations actual do it by liquification. The compressors in these plants are not small.

So. . .have any of you marina rats in NJ actually seen any marina mods to allow compliance to these rules? The local marina I pass every week has put in a brand new showroom. . .but can never keep the pump out pump operational.

I maintain in my driveway. The issue is not washing the boat. The issue is sanding the bottom and running in the engines. That's what makes a mess in my yard.

As for killing plants. . . .the detergents don't seem to reduce the monthly bill for roundup that gets sprayed all over the place.
