How cool must have been a real adrenaline rush, amazing to be so close.

We get the Humpback migration in Puget Sound every year, last year we had a close encounter with one he was about 100 yards in front of our bow doing a tail splash, then he surfaced coming straight at us looked like a boat putting out a wake he dove about 100' from our bow then resurfaced about 100' aft. I was hoping he would have surfaced next to us still was exciting to see him that close.

It was an experience I will never forget. He warned us by slapping his pectoral fins on the water surface as we drove toward him. He was clearly making his presence known, and for us to back off. We then kept a respectable distance for a few mins in the boat, and I swam over with a buddy. YOLO. He was calm now, and resting, but I was concerned he may start flapping those massive pectorals. He knew we were right next to him. We got about 50 t 60 ft away. Its’ a go pro, so it is for close up footage, and the sun was not out, so pictures and video did not do it justice. The adrenaline is still pumping….

Great video, thanks for sharing. We were out on Saturday and saw 2 of them. Went out about 4 miles Northwest of Point Loma, right where the depth drops to 750' is where we finally saw them. I wanted to head to La Jolla Canyon (1500' depth) but some guests on board were not feeling so good, they get sea sick fairly easy.

I really wanted to go see the pod of Orcas. A friend was out there 3 weeks ago and saw them while fishing between Point Loma and the islands, maybe 9 miles offshore. I didn't want to go in Mexican waters so we turned the corner and headed north.

If you are on Facebook, check the San Diego Whale Watch page, on Monday they saw a humpback breach multiple times and have it on video. Tried sharing it here but it wont work.

Magic, that is about the same place we were. 1,000 ft of water, on the east side of the 9 mile bank. It has been an amazing summer courtesy of El Nino.

I looked at another video you had, July 4... got a laugh out of the "watch my anchor line" comment. That Horizon pisses me off. They come in and lay out 200' of anchor line right in the middle of the anchor area that other people need to use. Then stand on the bow and treat everyone like idiots because they think they own the bay and can put anchor lines and buoys out wherever they choose. Zero courtesy to anyone else.

I probably passed you 10 times that day on the dinghy. Baby Bella is on the side of our dinghy. We light up blue at night as well.

In Hawaii on the whale watch boats they are not allowed to approach closer than 100 yards to any whale. However. often times if you shut down the motor than get curious and will come to you. I've had it happen a few time and they have come to within 20-25' from the boat. Pretty awesome.

Magic, lol, you caught that anchor reference. I agree, the crew on that boat are obnoxious.

Ken, water temps still low 70's.
