Had a really skilled OMC mechanic at the boat today.

Starboard engine was running WAY rough and would stall going into reverse because it was missing pretty bad and couldn't bounce back after the shift stutter. Here is what we did:

On both engines, Replaced all plugs, plug wires, caps, coil and condensers, points, oil and filters and water/fuel separators. Let me Say HUGE difference in starting and performance. Ill probably need a valve job on starboard next year, but fixed all my short term issues except one:

Starboard trim...motor runs, no fluid. we think there is a leak, and caught some fluid in the bilge. The drive is down, but can be moved easily with no fluid in it. Doesn't present that big a problem unless you reverse that engine (which I'd never really do, don't need that side to get in /out of my slip. Determined we will have to pull it out to really figure it out, we cant see any leak on the inside of the transom.

I'm a perfectionist, and the mechanic told me to just go easy on it and wait till the fall when we pull it out to do the bottom paint as we need the lift and will have to block it up.

I feel like I should just pull it out now and tear into the drives, but that's realistically a month and I'm guessing $4k because I'd go ahead and do all the while you're in there stuff and do the other side at the same time.

Any thoughts? He didn't seem to think it warranted doing it immediately, as first i never reverse that engine really and if i did, it still works it just raises up a little, and second, no shallows to worry about in my area.

What would you do? Wait till this fall, or go ahead and get to it?
