we recently purchased a 2005 searay 420 sundacer. i am considering purchasing a dingy lift and have looked at tnt, sealift. and seawise. can someone offer an opinion or recommendation based on their experience. we intend tocarry a zodiac projet. thank you

only suggestion that i have is go straight to the manufacturer, they will come to your boat and install. do not let your local marina install.
they are pretty expensive but if you have a 420 you have no worries

Look to the lift system that SR uses, I have one and we love it! It's the GHS Lift from Florida BowThrusters. The company will come up, over, anywhere the boat is located to install. They are not cheap (yours will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $28K but that projet will be sweet. I carry a 12ft Nautica RIB jet w/80hp-It's 45 mph of yacht tender. We put over 75 hours on the digny alone this year. All because of our lift.

I'm not sure on the 420DA, but some Sea Ray transoms are not stressed to support a hydraulic platform. Before making a committment, I would call Merritt Island Customer Service with your HIN# and the production number below it on the transon handy and ask them to verift that your boat has the needed bracing for a lift to be installed after delivery.

If it is not, don't put a lift on the boat until you have added the necessary bracing.

I have the GHS lift (Sea Ray OEM) and the zodiac projet. It's a nice setup and we use it all the time in the summer. I also have a Yamaha jet ski I put on it from time to time. The problem with the jet ski though is that the dog doesn't know how to ride it yet and when we anchor and I have to do the 5 am dog walk, the projet is a better vehicle. I wish they had a 4 stroke model though. It's great when hauling butt and tubing/skiing but idling around the marina causes it to smoke a lot.

However, I did have to replace the exterior hydraulic lines last year as one of them developed a leak. Not sure if this is going to be an annual thing or not as the lines are cheap and the thought of getting stuck somewhere with the platform down is not pleasent. I've also had to replace the key chain remotes as they are not sealed and they get crapped up with the saltwater.

Every dinghy set up, whether its on a crane or a hydraulic platform, has it's pros and cons. The big con on the platform is the stress on the transom so make sure it is built to handle it.

Speaking of Florida Bow Thruster, I just got a flier in the mail offering a $1,000 rebate for a dinghy lift if I commit by 12/31/06. Also offered a $1,000 rebate good for bow thruster install, or $2,500 rebate for a combo thruster/lift install.

A thousand pardons to all as I VERY SLIGHTLY hijack this thread...I promise to turn it back over.....

TC410....I noticed in your signature that you have 2000 410DA with 3126TAs.....are they original for the 200 or were your original 3116's replaced.....could you post a reply under the engine category...3116 vs 3126 thread....thanks....

sorry for temporary hijack....thread released...

thanks,

410DA's in 2000 were available with either 350hp 3116's or 375 hp 3126's. It is possible, not not likely that an owner would have paid to upgrade 3116's if he had experienced engine problems.

The difference between 350 hp and 375 hp engines is just not worth persuing........... besides, the space between the engines in a 410 is narrow and the Air-Seps on 3126's protrude at an odd angle into that space. The one on the stbd engine makes it difficult to pass for access to mechanicals near the transom. The one on 3116's is smaller and fits nicely against the engine in the space between the intake and fuel filter housing.

Guys,
I looked into the the fla bowthruster lift. Price was aprox 18,000 grand to be done here in NY and having nothign to do withthe local searay dealership... If they do it in the dealer they have to jack up the price to pay the dealer. Nice hugh.....

Having problem getting the wife to get on board with the purchase. See shes not the one carryingthe the dink every weekend or carrying the motor .... inflating and so on...

The princess just sits and waits with BON BONS in hand....

NICE......

Yeah, the Admirals have a hard time getting their minds around the concept of needing to spend 30K to keep 10K worth of tender out of the water! A buddy of mine is looking at a 40 sedan and he will have the lift added before the admiral ever sees the boat (he has one of those center console mini-yachts)... otherwise, too many questions from "management"

Luckily, our dinghy fit on the swim platform of our old boat without any lifts or davits, and all meausrements indicate that the dinghy will fit on the platform of the new boat as well. We only have a 11' RIB with a 9.9 on it (pulls the kids up on skis though). I can say to anyone considering a lift, that being able to bring the dinghy along and to easily launch and retrieve it opens up a whole new world.

Prodigalson, Sounds like that new boat of yours is going to be a beauty. Thinking about running that one should "warm-up" the rest of this winter.

Pete,
funny u mention that...I requestd pix of the boat as it was getting built.

Every week theguys over at merrit sent me some awesome pics...

Got me tru the winter...

Rob- I like the sound of the pics from Merritt Isalnd! Who did you speak with down there? Thanks, Tim

If he is still there, Rusty Higgins was one of the top Customer Service guys at Merritt Island and he has always been helpful. He was active as a reader on SRO and is a good guy. If you talk to him, tell him to "dial" us up here at CSR. We are trying to do the same thing in helping new owners here as we did at SRO.

My dealer made the arrangemnts. I called Searay custoemr serivce as well and they did a great job.. I did not have such a good experience with the person frank mentioned. He umm... couldnt be bothered ..... but they did get me a very nice woman who couldnt be happier...

He Rob,

Can you show us a couple of these pictures...

Rob,

You make it sound like the guy I mentioned wouldn't bother to help you get photos of your boat.

I doubt that is the case. He is responsible for all the customer service activity at Merritt Island on your boat. He may not have had time to do it personally, but it sounds like he delegated the task to one of his people who did as you wished. If you were satisfied with the way SR customer service treated you, it is because of the job Rusty Higgins does in taking care of customers.

Hi Frank,
Was no big deal. Maybe I caught him at a bad time ... But he did say he had no time for some one to get me pictures and couldnt guarantee I would have any . I thanked him and got the dealer involved who got me in touch with a very nice woman ... In the end I sent her flowers .... Every week the pics were there like clock work. He could have been the one behind it ... but when i spoke to him.... that was his reaction... but like i said we all have off days ... might have been his ... it all worked out the people couldnt have been nicer ... they even wrote me a note thanking me for the bussiness which was really nice and bunch people signed it...

Ill post the pics....
