Hurricane Earl, anybody pulling their boat?

Hi, we are leaving our 310 in but pulling the canvas and putting the moring cover on. We are also on the north shore. Good luck.

No.. I like Sabre yachts... that is not a Sabre yacht. It's really funky... I forget the name... starts with a "D"... It's got a very narrow beam and just doesn't look right IMO... and the owner can't dock the think worth a poop.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.dettlingyachts.com/d51.shtml

I love Sabre's, and it looks similar, but read between the lines on where I said "unique"... Didn't want to offend! I agree, wierd lines.

So those of you in RI are you pulling them or leaving them. I'm stuck out of the country and directing the wife by phone/email. We are up in Greenwich Bay Marina any ideas?? This sucks being away.

So... It was a picture perfect day on the water here this morning:

And now that I am a member of the "he wears a skirt" club because I did this:

The storm will now completely miss us because of my actions. You can all thank me later. And for all of you going boating this Labor Day weekend - I hope your boat sinks. I'm doing yard work now and will miss the diesel snob Sea Ray gathering at Port Kinsale... Bastards.

The boat needed new zincs anyway... so there.

AS LONG AS YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT IT! YOU DID THE RIGHT THING:thumbsup:

I guess I would say "politely" that it has a very "retro" interior...

You are really gonna be pi$$ed if the wind blows it over in the yard.

I dunno. . .. you *insurance* company is paying the haulout cost, right? Presumably, that means if the hurricane trashes your boat now. . they pay, right? Vs being in the water. . . then you pay, right?

That puts the whole "Nancy" thing in another perspective.

It all depends when you set the relaunch date for. I gather from your message, you didn't get a Saturday, 6am launch slot. That is unfortunate.

Me? The odds are predicting Tropical Storm winds (40% probability?) for my area. This puts a crimp in my weekend plans as it puts me 150 miles from friends and family on Friday night, and it is forcing unplanned vacation day for Friday. I figure for winds between 40 and 90. . I want to be there. Below 40 -> Don't need to be there. Above 90 -> I also don't need to be there. ;)

We have been watching this thing very closely here, and I would much rather error on the site of caution when it comes to a hurricane rolling through. I can remember many seasons ago while in Ocean City Maryland a hurricane was taking a dead aim on us. The police drove around the areas the night of the storm approaching with bullhorns telling everyone to evacuate. The roads leaving that night were jammed with traffic all headed west. Well that night the hurricane made an unpredicted turn to the east and missed OC all together, in fact it did not even rain that night. Storm paths can change very quickly, and you better be prepared when they do.

I'm just kidding around. I hoping you guys are all safe!

I wish you didn't have to pull the boats or hide out somewhere during the weekend. Quality family time down the drain.

Go ahead and laugh... I'll admit I'm paranoid with hurricanes... This happened during a previous one:

Sorta ruins about 2-3 months of boating after that while it's getting fixed (the platform was actually replaced on that damage).

Now you really could have had some stories my placing a couple of sharks teeth in the platform.

Ouch... I feel better now after seeing your pic!... This was just from a wind storm that came up while I was on vacation in Colorado two weeks ago. I am headed to the boat today to add another spring line and fenders...

I really haven't been able to make up my mind on what to do. I'm at Watch Hill on Fire Island and am prepared to stay. Too late to haul the boat out now anyway. Marina here is about half full, surf on the Ocean side is starting to kick up a bit but the bay side is relatively calm, light winds, light chop. Tomorrow may be an interesting day around here....time will tell.

Oh, and my insurance policy pays for the haul out and relaunch within 30 days for a named storm watch or warning....and I'm fully covered whether in the water or out under the same conditions. I'd really rather not have a claim though so all other precautions are in order.
