Hi,
We plan to be around these ports for the first time in mid August. There seems like lots of Marina choices and they all look good. Does anyone have any favourites, quiet Family oriented?
Hopefully within walking to the Town Centers.
Thanks
Bob

Vermillion has Municipal docks but they aren't very long. They do allow you to overhang in the river. You'd have to stern in to get off your boat. I'm not exactly sure, but they may be 25 to 30 footers. Inbound they would be on your starboard side just before the French resturant. I believe you should call ahead for reservations. You also have the Vermillion Boat Club that has a a few transient docks. Also, right before you get to the railroad bridge, your see a resturant on your portside, it used to be called Quaker State, there is a marina behind the resturant. It might be called Vermillion Power Boats but I'm not sure and they have a few transient docks.

Huron has a large Municipal Marina that is just beyond the resturant and hotel on your starboard side going into the river.
Have a good trip!

Sandusky has a brand new public marina. There is so much to do from a boat in the Sandusky Bay area. Obviously Cedar Point, but also Kelly's which has a great display of the glacial groves and a lot of other fun interesting family things to do. The sand bars of off of Bay Point are fabulous for swimming. Ther are tons of things to do. The new marina in Sandusky has a "high level" snack bar but we go there just for the food.(Walleye Tacos). You can walk to downtown from there also which has shops. You can drop your boat in Sandusky at the city ramp which is 1 mile away.

bblack makes a great point. No offense to Huron, but planning a boat trip to Huron is like a road trip to Queens NY instead of NYC.

Your kids will see Cedar Point from the mouth of the Huron River, so you may need to be prepared to explain why they're in a sleepy port town instead of at one the best amusement parks in The States...

Make mine the second vote for Cedar Point / Sandusky Bay & Kelleys Island!

Quaker Steak & Lube is still open in Vermillion (at least it was very recently). Capt Ed. of the municipal docks will take good care of you. The northern floaters are nothing special, but they get the job done. Chez Francois is an amazing restraurant on the river. They have a dress code in the dining room, but accept casual attire on the patios. (it's not geared to children however) Vermillion is a GREAT place to explore by dinghy, and frankly, can be a little frustrating without one.

The municipal docks are both by the French restaurant and are called water works. they also manage the docks just south of Quaker Steak and there is room their for about 5 -7 boats depending upon size. The dockmasters are the gracious and some of the best on Lake Erie. The Huron boat basin is another great place to dock. Look up Huron Municipal Marina. There is a great restaurant there called I 5's but not much else to do. You are better off staying in Vermillion.
