Hi Guys,

well its time for the "Dink" mount. I have looked a bunch of them and I'm leaning towards this one, because when not committed to going somewhere for the weekend it had a very small footprint. I'm not sure it will stand the test of time but it might be the one for us.

Yeah it looks pretty sweet for sure. But kinda looks like too good to be true also. I did some research and there is another smaller company that makes them that proceeds Hurley, but Hurley has the quick disconnect that puts theirs over the top.

Me too. There is a zodiac 260 in my near future, and I too am considering a davit system. Any info or experience with these might be helpful.

For over 4 years I have been looking, shopping, thinking and looking some more for the perfect davit system. I tie my dinghy to my swim platform and it is a pain in the ass! Also leaves no room, so have to climb over dinghy for docking and filling up fuel. This looks like it could be the one if it leaves some room between the transom and dinghy to still use the swim platform to get on and off boat. I would like to hear from someone that has this one. It's not cheap, but if it works as well as it looks in the video, this just may be the one I finally pull the trigger on.

Yeah when I ran across it I knew I had to spread the word.

For what it's worth, a good friend of mine who over-researches everything currently has a new Downeast style yacht in the build, probably spending close to $1 million when all is said and done. He has been looking for an alternative to a hydraulic solution for his tender in favor of something more simple that will sufficiently suit his needs. After spending a lot of time with the Hurley folks at the Miami show last week he is leaning towards the H30. His reaction to seeing it was that it's, in his words, "pretty slick, easy to install and appears easy to operate." He was quoted under $2,000 installed.

SWEET Thanks Red Stripe! I'm sold,

Looks pretty cool. But now you'd have to find a place to store that pole with the winch. And I wonder if that pole, while in use, would be awkward to use, such as putting the operator in a weird position up against the transom. And why are davits, regardless of the manufacturer, always well over $1,000? This one probably costs them $200 or less to manufacture....

What pole and what winch? I don't have a Hydraulic platform and looking for something to implement to get my dingy on and off. I don't mind a bit of elbow grease to make that happen.... A Dingy in my case won't be leaving my swim platform all too often...1 hour per month tops! I have a 390DA which has a fairly high swim platform relative to the water line.

Because we will pay it LOL!

When I had the 320 I was searching for a davit also I made "DOM's davits" worked great but was difficult pulling it up onto the boat. So I thought about a 12vdc winch installed in the transom locker to pull it up. That might be an added bonus to your Davits???

Thats a cool mod Joe!

Would be interested to see what you decide on. We made a deposit on a dink at the nyc boat show and the more I think about how to mount and travel with it the less I want one. Looking at this product the first thing that strikes me is where would one store such a thing? And as mentioned on this thread why are the davits so much frigging money? If we go with the dinghy this season we may look to have Masterfab fabricate something similar to his custom setup, but even then we would need a bigger slip because we are already oversized (loa) for our 32' slip.

What dink did you go with? Why not use weaver Davits to stand it up when you are at the dock, but then tow it when you are under way if you don't like it standing up when underway?

We are a family of 5 so we went with the Highfield UL290 for the rigid bottom as well as the weight. I'd rather not tow it but that's just a lack of experience in doing so and we generally cruise around 25-28 knots. From what I've read towing over 25 knots is not recommended The one thing the family loves is the relaxing view of the wake while underway so I'd rather not obstruct the view. ideally as I'm writing this, I think it would be nice to throw the dink on the bow and stow the motor on the platform somewhere.

CTsearay don't mean to highjack your post. Just interested in what you decide on as far as a mount.

As Dean mentioned, I intend to design and quote a custom davit for him as soon as it warms up a bit (hopefully he'll buy it too!) My systems do have some advantages over "off the shelf" models, since I can custom tailor the placement and height of the dinghy for the individual mother ship and dinghy, so the owner still has good platform access to the transom locker, and can decide on exactly where to place the dinghy for their own requirements.

As to pricing, it really depends on the individual design, but for roughly the same money as a commercial rig, mine are fabricated with exclusively 316L heavy wall stainless steel components, fasteners, and welding rod, 100% TIG welded, and electropolished for appearance and longevity. I also make a custom cradle for the dinghy, so it is machined to precisely fit the dinghy bottom, resulting in solid support with no pressure points or movement in rough conditions. I also make custom mounts that won't place undo strain on the swim platform. I'd be happy to discuss options, if anyone has interest, just let me know.

Thanks a LOT Irie308! Doesnt matter about the highjack, but for making me waiver now LOL!! Honestly thanks,

Dale very nice looking davits are yours able to come off when you don't want to carry the dink? That's one thing the admiral wants is a fairly clean footprint when not carrying the dink.

Complete removal in about 3-5 minutes, as long as you have the proper Allen wrench in your hand. And John, if you're in Milford, you can stop by anytime and check them out in person - you are only about 80 minutes away from me.

Haha....I think I've gone back and forth more on the decision to get a dinghy than when we decided to upgrade to the 320!
