Hudson River-Newburgh to LI

I'm looking to do a trip to Long Island over a long weekend. Can anyone suggest a route? North Shore? South Shore? Fun Marina's, Good Resturants, Bars?

It's about 6 hours from Newburgh to Port Washington (for reference).

That seems a bit long Mike, which route are you traveling?
It took me a bit over 4 hours from Northport to Haverstraw. Then it's an hour north to the bridge at route84 Newburgh. Port Washington is at least an hour west of Northport (closer to Newburgh).

I'm chill when I cruise. Maybe throw the anchor, eat lunch. Idle through the east river to catch the sites and dodge the junk, wave at the prisoners in Rikers Island. Takes me about 6 hours.

Ok, I skip the Rikers tour. Also I take the Harlem river. Wasn't sure if you took the southern loop.

I flip a coin at Hell's gate. Heads southern, Tails Harlem.

I guess my point is, if you've never seen Manhattan by boat (your own boat), don't rush it. I love doing the circle line route around Manhattan. In a 260DA I would probably choose the north shore tour. Very scenic. Going the South shore route might get you some big swells outside of the Verrazano Bridge.

Did the Harlem River last year to the Statue, rough ride. Wife and daughter swore never to do it with me again. I liked it. Thanks guys. I'm leaning to the North, any Marina's come to mind?

I thoroughly enjoyed Brewer's Capri West in Manhasset Bay. One of the best-run, well-kept marinas I have stayed at. If you're thinking of heading further east, Danfords in Port Jefferson is a great spot (with a terrific anchorage inside the entrance to the harbor). Manhasset Bay is an easy run from Newburgh. Without stopping, I did it in about four hours on a very leisurely cruise last summer. Port Jeff is totally doable as well, but obviously a longer day.

Hey if your coming to Port Jeff give me a heads up. I have a restaurant across from Danfords and would like to buy you guys a round! I actually keep my boat on the south shore as I am a fan of weekends @ Fire Island and sitting on the beach! :smt038

I would agree that for the North shore, Capri Marina and Danfords in Port Jeff are good stops,

tdschafer, Which restaurant is yours? We spend a few weekends in Port Jeff and shoot there for lunch sometimes... You have good taste in boats so maybe your food at the restaurant would be good! :)

The name of the restaurant is " Tommy's Place". You can check us out on the web www.tommysplace.com but dont judge us by the website. We have hired several diff web designers and they all blow smoke to get your $$$ then blow you off when its time to work. The current guy is giving us a hard time for the password he changed to access our site!!! We are located across the street from the ferry terminal which is next to Danfords. Always happy to meet other Sea Ray peeps! drop me a line when your local and if I'm not @ Fire Island would like to buy you a round too!
Just a note. The brickfront building is our Rocky Point location. The oakfront (# 109) is the PJ location.

I recognize your PJ location, we spent several looong rainy afternoons one year at the bar when the weather was not cooperating with our vacation. Its a great spot, food is very good and the people and service were great too. If I remember correctly a friendly bartender helped me to get rid of some money by introducing me to keno! :smt021

That was quite a trip:smt038 If anyone gets the chance, plan to stop - good times. I know I will.

Thanks Russ. Yeah we have Quick Draw, Lotto, Mega millions, Powerball and now Off Track Betting. Just a few things to pass the time on those rainy days. I know they were a big hit with the Ct. people that came over on the ferry to watch the US Open last year only to find out it was rained out when they got here! Look forward to seeing you there!

I do envy those who run the Hudson in the summer. Allways had a good time running from Albany down into the city and out into the sound. As you probably already know Mariners restaraunt in Newburg was always good to stop at for us. And as Red Stripe said, Port Jefferson is awesome also.

Thank You all, I will be in touch as we get closer. Let's get through this brutal winter first.
