:smt100OK, I know this post will bring on all sorts of toilet humor, not interested in those type of replies, thanks.... try to contain it plz and just help out with the technical aspects of my question
Thanks! we are new to boating with a 1997 240 Sundancer. We have no clue how to flush the head!
All we know is it is a porta-type looking potty. there is a macerator key on the wall behind it and a black button (?) beside that. There is a pull handle on the base that emptys the bowl. When we open up the hatch, at the bottom there is a wide tubing with a valve. Someone said that every time we want to empty the tank we have to climb down into the hatch and open then close the valve!? Is that true? I dont think I am agile enough to do that or strong enough. There is also a silver waste secock (?) on the starboard side of the boat!
Help! We want to be able to use our head! It's getting embarassing!

I'm going to assume the valve, and macerator are for overboard discharge. The valve, if its the seacock, should be locked, or at the least ziptied closed. Its is illegal to dump overboard in coastal and inland waters.

It sounds like a MSD porta potti.

to use:

Make sure fresh water tank on top is full.
use the plunger to squirt a bit of water in the bowl.
Do your business
pull the lever to dump the goodies in the tank.
pump the plunger a couple times to rinse the bowl.
close the lever
When full, pull up to a pump out facility, typically on the gas dock.
ask to have it pumped out. While they are pumping, run some water through the system through the bowl. (I just used a bucket)
top off fresh water tank.

OK Thanks Molson!
So are you saying that big tube down in the hatch with the ball valve should just always be in closed position? Or do i have to open it when i want to pump out?

Does the tube in the hatch go to a thru-hull fitting on the side or bottom of the boat?

This is how I use it. I drink 12 beers and when the urge hits me I unzip and let 'er rip. Then I flush and continue the process until I fall alseep.

A picture of your head would allow us to give better answers to your questions. It does sound like a porta-potty but can't be sure without pictures.
