I recently bought the Zaal NoFlex Digestor for my 2000 340 DA. The holding tank indicator light that's in the cabin works. However, it shows the tank indicator reads "Empty" all the time, even when it is more than half full.
I am assuming the float in the tank is stuck in some sludge on the bottom of the tank? That's why it reads Empty even when it isn't?

So, I'm thinking the NoFlex will liquefy the sludge and allow for the float move freely in the tank. So I have 2 questions:
1. Is the NoFlex safe to use in the tank and will it harm any pipes/plumbing?
2. How long do I leave that NoFlex in the tank before I pump it out?

Thanks

1) totally safe (that's what is designed for)
2) as long as possible, I went 5+ months this past winter with not using the boat and with the Noflex in there, it solved a 10+ year problem I had of the forward head cycling every few hours

I flushed the tank, pulled the floats and cleaned them first. A little stinky but not unbearable. Put in 2 scoops and let it slosh around for a weekend. Now I add a scoop per week and no odors at all. Guage works perfectly. I also use in my shower sump and bilge. They make a bowl cleaner that works with it also. Thumbs up from me.

Love that stuff. Pricey, but on my third season using it and no stink.

Just don’t ever put the blue stuff in your tank. Noflex is essentially fertilizer and oxygen for the aerobic bacteria in the tank. If you put standard holding tank chemicals in the tank, you will kill the bacteria that eats the sludge.

What about when you want to clean your toilet bowl? I’d imagine standard toilet bowl cleaning products would also infringe on noflex in the tank once flushed?

Yes. Do not use any chemicals to clean the toilet. I put in about 1/4 scoop and take a toilet brush an scrub it good before we leave after the weekend. Let it sit until we return a week or longer later. Can do the same when we are here, just use less.

There are several products designed for cleaning heads when you use Noflex. One is Raritan C.P.(cleans potties). Sold at west marine. Another is Biotal bowl cleaner. The objective is to not kill the bacteria in your holding tank. No bleach, no acids.

Not only is it safe for hoses, it actually cleans them over time.

One more point, they do not recommend flushing out your tank once you start using it, as you are flushing out the bacteria that are eating the solids.

Didn’t know they make a bowl cleaner. I’ve been using the Sealand stuff as per the system manufactures recommendation to keep the seals healthy.
Hopefully it isn’t neutralizing the Noflex.
Just googled the cleaner and it says it’s okay for the seals. I wonder if it’s really that much different than the Sealand stuff.
Checked the Biotol and it doesn’t mention rubber or seals.
This is getting complicated........

You have to be careful with the cleaner that you don't kill the bacteria in the tank ..... This is from the Noflex sight

Cleaning Product to avoid?
The product will not neutralize--- natural disinfectants such as Pine cleaners, Tea Tree oil soaps, and Orange base cleaners. Try not to introduce any bleach, oils, solvents or disinfectants into the system.

The only cleaner I’ve used is the Sealand stuff. It appears to be pretty close to the Zaal Cleaner so it should be okay.
It also doesn’t appear to contain any of the stuff that Noflex warns against using.
I’ve got a couple of full bottles of the Sealand Cleaner left. I’ll probably use them up and give the Zaal Cleaner a try when it comes time to buy more.

I've been using NoFlex for 5 years with awesome results. However - I did not know I wasn't suppose to flush the tank. Thanks for the info!!

When I cleaned and repaired the sensors recently I was amazed how old the nearly 20-year-old tank was so clean after one year of using Noflex.
