How to recharge holding tank vent filter -- w/pics

If you have ever accidentally over filled your holding tank (the major reason why fart filters fail prematurely), the charcoal becomes a fairly solid mass, yes I imagine if you used a pick to pull the 2 inch diameter foam out of the 1/2 opening and then beat it senseless you could get the bulk of the charcoal out.

Understand now. My holding tank shuts off the ability to flush when full to prevent overfilling - I thought all were like this. I guess if this were a constant problem you could always relocate the vent filter to 'higher ground'.

I did the split down the middle method. What I do to eliminate a gap is to fill each end and put a foam filter piece in each half (at the joint where they screw together). Make the foam a little big so that the two pieces compress together when you screw together the two halves. This keeps the charcoal in place as you turn the filter horizontally. Worked great. No smell.
