I just replaced my Stero with the Clarion M309 / I want to hook up a sub to it / Has anyone had experience with this? / I purchased the sub: CMG2512W / Which RCA jacks do I use for the sub? / The manual is not written for the novice. / What is the best power amp to use with the CMG2512W / A photo or diagram would be great if someone had it. Thanks in advance for your help

I'm not familiar with that unit but I don't know of any units that have have connections wire a sub, you will need an amplifier. It is difficult to help with the amplifier question without knowing more about your system such as the number of speakers and zones. A typical head unit will have the ability to directly drive four speakers. If you need more or have a sub you will need an external amplifier. The RCA jacks will connect to the amplifier and the speaker/sub wires will connect to the amplifier. The link that jeepguy gave you is probably a good start.

I just installed the M309 on my boat. There is no way to "direct wire" the sub unless you want to use it as a front or rear channel. What I am doing is installing a JL Audio 700/5 to drive the 4 JL Audio 6.5's & one JL Audio 10" sub. This should provide all the power I need for the cockpit. I also picked up a JL Audio 600/6 amp. I have another pair of 6.5's that I may throw in the arch. If I do I will use the 600 to power the 6 cockpit speakers. Then I will hook up a mono amp (JL Audio 500 watt) that I have to drive the sub. This may be overkill though which is why I am hooking up the 700/5 first. These are all class D amps which draw less power and run cooler than class A/B amps from the research that I did. Some audiophiles will argue that class A/B produces better sound , which may be true, but being this is the cockpit of a boat & not a recording studio I opted for less power requirement & less heat dissipation since these will be mounted in my starboard aft hanging locker! Good luck whichever way you go but I don't think that you will be happy with a sub without an amp to drive it!
