I've been looking for a used 185 sport for several months and have found one in Stuart, Fl. The problem is I live about 4 hours away and don't want to make several trips to and from. It's a brokerage boat at a Marine Max there and I'd like to have as much in order as possible. I'm just wondering how to find a surveyor/mechanic in an area I'm unfamiliar with. Also, any experiences with dealing with Marine Max brokerage boats would be a big help.

This is pretty typical from my experience. MonacoMike is right on the money with the two links. I purchased my current 340DA from North Carolina, when I'm in TX. I lined up a surveyor from the NAMS list and put them in contact with the broker to schedule the survey.

My 340DA is the first boat I've purchased without seeing in person prior to purchase. Good luck with the purchase!

You could try Steve Snider of Snider Marine Surveyors and Consultants, Inc. Member of Society of Accredited Marine Surveyoys

We have used him twice and found him very helpful, he's also an engine guy too which is a big plus. Not sure if he goes as far as Stuart but I think he may do. Good Luck:)
