How much does it cost you to fill up?

I try not to think about it... because I remind myself if I stress out over it too much, I have no business being in boating (powerboating at least)! you have to play mental tricks on yourself. back in the early 2000's when I had my trawler , it was like $400 to fill up my 400 gal of diesel! just filled it twice coming up from st Augustine fla. this gas powered planing boat thing is new to me but we haven't done any long extended trips yet other than jersey shore from Haverstraw ny

Looking back at my annual cost of boating over the past 5 years, it looks like fuel is only about 20% of the cost of my boating. But its the one cost where there is a direct relationship between spending (in terms of fuel burned, not necessarily price per gallon) and enjoyment. The more I burn the better I enjoy the summer and the better value I get out of the rest of the 80% of the total cost.

With my marina discount, I pay $3.80 / gal, so empty->full for me is about $760. Without the discount it would be $4.20 / gal (or $840)

hey Bobeast. Where do you keep your boat? We're at Will Berm.

Hey we're practically neighbors. I'm over here at Oxbow. I bought the boat from Nina there at Delta Yacht sales.

I always get a kick out of the surprised expression on people's faces when we're out with guests and they ask what my fuel economy is.

When I reply something to the effect of "Well, at this slow cruise speed I get about 1 mpg."

Talk about shock and awe! Mostly shock.

How is BC doing for fuel prices?
Going out next week for our trip north.
We usually fill up first at Westview then next at Port McNeil next Shearwater then Hartley Bay then on to Prince Rupert then to Alaska where fuel is reasonable compared to Canada.

Back on 04 fuel was 4.85 per gallon. It cost us 960.00 for 1/2 a tank .....OUCH
yeah , one of the biggest oversupply situations in the history of petroleum fuels right now and the speculators are itching to find some artificial way to keep it hiked up. I get a kick out of "unrest in the middle east" !! isn't that one worn out already??? when isn't there "unrest". its bunch of BS anyhow. infuriating how the global oil market is allowed to price fix
done venting - not trying to spark a geopolitical debate

Speaking about burning fuel.

I love you BIG boat guys/gals when you are up on full plane. I bet your boat loves it as well.

Between Chattanooga and Knoxville during football season I just know at some point on Sunday I'm going to see a wall of cruisers heading south just burning the gallons. :D

When are you making the return trip up north.
We plan on leaving May 7 (depending on the Gulf and River Levels), and arriving on May 18. Looking forward to seeing you again! Looks like Chickamauga is at full summer pool...

Our 1200 mile trip twice a year takes 3000 gallons each way. The Admiral and I just smile - its the nature of the hobby!

That's probably a season and 1/2 worth of gas for me. Not that I wouldn't love to have more time on the boat and run up some numbers like that. However I doubt The Admiral would be as eager.

6000 gallons per year, or 12k? I’m reading twice a year, thinking you go 3k down, 3k back up, then you do it again? Or is it just 3k there, and 3k back at the end of the season?

3K gallons each way - Up in May, down in Oct/Nov -then maybe 1000 in each place. It's why I tell my progressive son-in-law that I'm warming the globe 16 cylinders at a time when I start them up and he is on the boat. Last summer he said he didn't like it when I said that, and I told him: "We're going to miss you" - LOL.

Just to let you know production now equals consumption. Lots of shale oil but it not good for aviation and diesel. Those two are what the world wants. Need heavy stuff and there is just enough of it. Shale production is down because the refineries do not want as much.
Projection for next year is not enough heavy oil so we will see higher prices.
In US you are not taxes like the rest of the world. I will probable be spending more time in Washington this summer. When oil was 140 a barrel gas on the way to Alaska was 1.65 a litre and I think gas in Alaska was $4 a gallon.

We fill up from a truck down here at Fr8Dog's home dock (thanks Mike!). We'll top off for the trip Monday for $3.00 a gallon including FL tax...

Our 450 was very fuel efficient at 22-24 combined and even though fuel was expensive at that time I wouldn't have traded the comfort of a big boat for anything. Nine years of ownership was worth every penny !!!
We have lived our life like ( what if tomorrow never comes ) and someday we will be 100% accurate!
Safe boating to all.
