Greetings. I'm new to "Club". A friend and I went in halves on a 1995 Sea Ray 200 Select with Tandem axle steel trailer.

The information that the previous owner gave me including a data sheet from Sea Ray that states dry weight is 3250 lbs.. Thats heavy. Was wondering what does Trailer weigh?

My partner wants to tow it for short distance with his minivan, but I'm thinking the tonque weight alone may be too much. I can weigh that with some bathroom scales.

I towed it with a 5.3L Silverado and had no real problems other than it is no light weight. Glad the trailer brakes seem to work.

Thanks for your time.

Without checking, that sounds about right for the dry weight. Nothing out of the norm there. Figure about 1,000 - 1,200 lbs for the trailer. Don't forget to add for batteries, fuel, oil/fluids, and other gear you have in the boat.

For towing, remember that anything other than the driver in the car should be subtracted from the tow rating.

Thanks Dennis. So it weighs as much as my tow vehicle. His fwd odyssey won't like trailering this.

I wouldn't tow it with an Odyssey - it's rated at 3500lbs max so he is going to be over his limit. I believe those vans came with a class 2 hitch receiver so all of the hardware will be smaller than necessary. Even if he decides to chance it and go a short distance, I wouldn't try to launch or retrieve it as he wont have much traction at those front wheels. For the tongue weight - I hope you have a hell of a bathroom scale! If it is setup correctly you will have about 10-12% weight at the tongue so you're looking at ~500 lbs. There are some tricks you can use but I'm not sure I'd trust them.

Thanks for the heads up on the tonque weight. You may have saved my wifes scales. Boat is much heavier than I imagined.

The truck I towed it around town with is pretty well set up since I ordered it with the trailer package but selected the fuel economy rear end as gas was high in late '06 early '07.

He likes Hondas so hes thinking of getting a Pilot since it may tow higher weight. Honda says a 4wd Pilot is rated at 4500lbs, 2wd is like the odyssey. I'll pass the combined weight figure on to him.

After his fwd transmission crokes!

One starts thinking of all the boating possibilities available with a trailerable boat. Dry stack storage on one lake won't seem enough. I offered him a vehicle trade for his vacation to Smith Mountain Lake but will have to check with my insurance agent.

Your 1500 Silverado will tow it fine. I had a 1500 Suburban that I towed both my '95 220OV and '99 230OV and it did well. I would not even consider towing either with a mini-van or toy truck. Tell your buddy that he may want to consider a new Tundra if he's into foreign vehicles.
