I know there are some mixed views on underwater lights, especially blue ones but I may be one of the cheeze heads that likes them... and yes the blue ones. I was going to install 2 of the Ocean LED A12 Amphibeans under my swim platform on my 340 DA, anybody know if 2 is enough? I don't want a huge overpowering look just a decent subtle glow. Anyone have good expieriences with those btw?

Thanks

Subtle Glow = 2 lights

I have seen 4 on 40' and up boats, and they look okay, on a 340, I think 2 would be sufficient IMO.

I have 3 Blue A6's on mine and that is plenty of light. They look awesome and it is even more impressive when you are cruising at night with these on and the wake is lit up. Just make sure you mount them well below the water line in the stern. Mine are mounted 6 inches below the top of the bottom paint on the stern of the boat. I wired all 3 to the Acc2 switch which has its terminal end in the bilge harness just above the batteries. Email me if you want more info.

I have written before about the LED lights that I put together for under water. They are 48 LED lights in colors of White, Blue, or Green. I have been testing a new design this summer before I go to market.
I have 2 Blue 48 LED lights and White 48 LED lights on my boat. Most of the people that buy them for their boat buy 2 blue and 2 white ones. Then wire the blue ones and white ones to light on their own circuit. That way they can either turn on the blue ones or the white ones or both in combination.

Just wondering, when your at cruise speed arent they out of the water?

I think you should drill holes every 6 inches around the whole perimeter for blue lights. And then put some blue led christmas tree lights around the rails... plug them into a Honda generator bungie corded to the ass end of the boat and you'll be set.

Thats a good question and I would have to believe that some of the light may be out of the water but being LED's they do not run hot like halogen therefore you can run with them on. They are very impressive when the wake is lit up at night and when at the dock it is amazing what you can see under water with them lit up. I can't tell you how many compliments I have received on them which kind of surprised me.

I have 2 white/transparent A12 amphibians on my 280. Since my swim platform is extended the first strongest light is missing under the platform, altough it seems wonderful.
When the bottom comes dirtier unfortunately you cant paint them with antifouling the light power decreases.
But your 340 I guess has integral swim platform shorter then mine wont miss the strongest light
Imo 2xA12 is enough for your 340.
Best regards.

Gary,

Isn't it better to put the Honda gen set on the bow pulpit area? That way when your hatch is open, you can enjoy that pleasant exhaust smell. That location would keep it further away from that annoying CO detector in the cockpit...

Sorry for the thread creep - just couldn't resist...

Depends... If you have a fixed-mount satellite dish screwed to the rail up by the bow, the generator may cause interference.

Darn - didn't think about that. Just wanted the power source close to the naked 60w bulbs hanging from the bow rails...those wire nuts work great for tying the wires together though. Maybe we could invite Wingless back for a one time visit to provide us a picture of that "cool mod".

Why not take a router and cut a groove all the way around the boat and then glue in some blue rope light? Or maybe some of that rope light with the Christmas lights in it?
