How many of you are guitar players?

WTF,
I'm the guy on the right in the red pants ....woohoo !

I did just a little guitar years ago, actually played the piano, haven't tickled ivory in quite a while now. I would have to relearn.

There are guitar players and there are people that play guitar.

That makes no sense at all.

I started playing at 12. Totally by ear; can't read one note of music. Now at 55; I still can't read one note.

It's a nice way to unwind.

Collection;

1967 Martin D-21. Original ownwer. Bought it new in 1968.
1956 Gibson J-45. Just purchased in November. Mint condtion. Ex Grand Ole Opry guiter back in the late 50's.
2001 Martin D00-28EC, EricClapton Signature Model.

No room in back bedroom for anything else right now.

As for the fingers, get them soaked in melted parafin wax once a month. That really helps me with the stiffness.

More cowbell! We need more cowbell!

I gotta come down here to the tank more often...

I have been playing since I was 12, and still play regularly. In my basement I have a mini studio set up as we also have a Pearl 5 piece pro drum set that I also play and keyboards, as well as headset microphones. We "jam" once in a while as a family lol. During the summer, I take one of the guitars and amp out to the cabana and play for guests and friends.

I played in several bands throughout college and we toured several of the bars all around the hamptons (went to SOuthampton college LIU).

Mostly I play classic rock (zep, ozzy, beatles etc...) but I do know quite a bit of alt rock (Bush, PJ, tool and Rage against the machine)

I have been playing drums more lately, as both my daughters have an interest in that more so than guitar. My 2 year old boy is now enjoying the drum set and he can hit them pretty well! Pic from last year of the boy:

I've been at it for a couple months now. Alot of discouraging moments to this point but every now and then I recognize some improvement. I only practice 1 hr a day so progress is slow. I'm going to give it a couple years and see what happens. I've a nephew that's a very good guitar player, for the last few years he has been into the gypsy jazz thing. Unfortunately he finds it a drag to help a beginner like me.

Most important tip I can give any starting guitar player is DONT try to accelerate too fast. Sounds dumb, but really building a foundation is THE most important aspect. Learn your scales, practice the fingering techniques, dont move on to the next part UNTIL you learn it perfectly. It will hurt you in the long run.

As well, dont be lazy with your thumb. I have seen way too many people wrap the thumb up around the top of the fretboard. BAD habit. THis will severely limit your speed in chord changes and soloing and for reaching fret to fret on arpeggios.

Take your time.
