How many hours on your gas Genny?

Our 2002 340DA is a Feb 2002 (B202) build date and but was not sold until March 2003. 240 hours on my genny now.

Bought the boat with 114 hrs. on the genny in 2006. Replaced the impeller twice (early '06 and early '09 - I replace all impellers after three seasons), the zinc once ('09), the plugs once ('09 - genny was missing badly on one cylinder), put in a carburetor gasket kit ('07 - fuel bowl was leaking, pouring raw fuel into carb throat and floooding the engine when running) and replaced the hour meter this spring since it all of a sudden stopped working. Other than that oil changes once a year using Chevron DELO 400 15w-40 HDEO diesl engine oil and WB filters.

My Kohler 5CD has only 0.7 hours on it but I just installed it last month.

Hampton...we in the S need to run ac on 340s more to keep the cabin cool. As I've stated before, the '03+ 340s were built with the same ac as the 300 & 320s, 12K btu, too great a volume to cool quickly, the only great error SR made IMO. When ours dies we're replacing with a 16K BTU or greater. Almost all our friends boats cool in mins or at least hrs while ours takes many hrs, especially in 100º air & 90º water.

How'd that impeller change go? Where did you get the part? Do you have the original pump or an aftermarket?

Ron

Mark (wileecoyote) sent me to this aftermarket place for parts:

Go to Partsfortechs.com. here's what I ordered:
1 x Generac 69853 Impeller Quicksilver 47-810567 (069853) = $19.95
1 x Generac 070943 Gasket replaces Quicksilver (070943) = $2.25
1 x Generac 072561 CAM (810578) for Quicksilver Sea Water Pump (072561) =
$3.80

Ordered on Tuesday and UPS showed up on Friday for a Saturday install.
All went well.
I am assuming it is the original pump on mine.
Very accessible.
Took less than 10 min for change out.

958 hrs on an 8KW Quicksilver. Have been told they should last 4,000 hours if maintained propery and run with a good even load on each side. Will see in an other 10 years if that is correct.

Hey Northern
Not to be nosey but what boat you running with an 8kW QS? I've never seen one that big!

Good thoughts. Hopefully, we won't have to experience that upgrade.

Dunno ... but if you want to wait until that unit dies you might have a lot of years ahead of waiting and sweating ... these a/c units are quite reliable and run for thousands of hours. Might be better to swap it out now and sell this unit used on Craigslist or eBay.

Luckily we are under cover so the sun doesn't heat the whole boat. But two years ago we had a stretch when the temps on the lake were at 102F and the a/c pretty much ran constantly without cycling much at all.

I have 85 hours on the engine and just over 160 hours on the 5E genny. Here in Vegas, I figure to put around 200 hours a year on her. Have to run the AC all night during July and August on Lake Mead.

We don't ever sweat. The only issue is having the unit run full time and possibly wearing it out. It only runs full time with the temp dialed below 76 and the sun beating directly down in the Summer. When we're at the beach, we don't even run the genny full time, 'cause we're in the water. When we're at the dock, we set the temp at 79 (Unless we're there, then it's at 74 and usually in the evening). So, it actually works fine just as it is.

Even full load that my '99 34' DA can put to the her is about 4kw, Westerbeke says salt water is getting in the Stator--I can't see how that could happen:huh:..... Any ideas Anyone?? I am installing the rebuilt Stator today I bought from Broward Armeture and have sent the burnt up one back to them as a core---Waiting to hear what they have to say....

We trailer our 260 DA - usually hang out at Little Sandy Beach. We arrive on Friday nights and leave around noon on Sunday - launch and recover at Calville Bay.

In fact we'll be there tommorrow night
