How I use Leverage Polish & Oxidation Remover

Wow, thanks for the response. I will order some up to give it a shot. I actually own a detailing company and may want to buy bulk of it! How much do you think that I would need to do my whole boat?

If you're in Freshwater then you can use just water and a towel. Never use any inbetween products with my Polish said:
Donnie....you mean even the dreaded black streak and spider poop will wash off with water and towel or would one require your cleaner for these more difficult jobs? I;m ordering your product shortly....
A friend of mine uses what he calls a mold release wax which he swears by and streaks and spider stuff wipes off and shine lasts all season and its wiped on and doesnt need to be wiped off, what kind of product would this be?...thanks for the info.... Tom

1 Bottle of Polish & go for 2 Bottles of OR.

Follow my method on using the Polish and you'll use allot less. Thanks!

Tom,

The boats I polish stay clean with just a water and towel. Yes, my Polish does make the surface slick where nothing sticks, but it does have limitations.

If you get allot of spider poop then use a mild soap for the buildup. Anything that will remove black streaks will also strip any wax/polish off the surface to a degree. Some formulas are more stout than others, but I can't recommend any certain one.

I keep the black streaks at bay by rinsing and wiping down weekly. The longer you leave them on a surface the harder they are to remove, but I'm referring to months of neglect. If you don't have the time to do that every week and the black streaks start to be apparent then use a little bit of my polish on a towel and they will clean up easily if the surface is already polished. Also, please make sure the surface is black streak and spider poop free before the first coat of polish is ever used.

The polish has a mild cleaning agent, but sometimes the staining and crud need some extra attention.

Mold Release Wax.
Tell him he will get the same results out of Pledge.:smt043

Mold release wax is used in production and only manufactured to help in the release from the mold. It offers no UV protection or any type of protection for that matter. It's similar to putting a coat of silicone on your boat.
Many of the Houseboats are delivered with only mold release wax and it starts to show within a few years. I've got oxidation on HBs that are 2 years old and it's been a pain to correct. Their Gel is thin, so putting a buffer to them can cause longevity issues down the road....that's a whole other story for another time..........

Just ask him this the next time he refers to the wax," Why is it called Mold Release Wax if it's supposed to be used for something else". Those waxes are made for one purpose and one only. :smt021

Thanks for the order Tom and let me know if you need anything.

What would you use to regularly wash the boat after the polish has been applied? Anything besides your soap, I would love to be able to buy it in a pinch locally.

Well, did some major polishing this weekend and I must say that the Leverage products are great. The OR did a wonderful job on my severely oxidized 220 (still a lot more work to do). I must say as well that the HF buffer is awesome as well. Not bad for $54.

Couple questions though, what is the best way to work on non skid surfaces? Also, there is still discoloration in the coat, I take it wet sanding is the next step? The shine has returned but it is a cream color instead of bright white. I removed the SR emblem from the side of the boat and I can still see where it came off at when up close.

I used the Leverage Polish this weekend....and it was super easy to apply...and it was the easiet product to remove, I have ever used.
I had some Meguairs compound left, so I used it on the entire boat, to remove all water spots, spider spots, etc. I wanted to start with a clean canvas. The polish dries to a very light haze ( and kind of hard to see) but there was hardly any residue build up on the terry cloth towel when wiping it off. I applied on everywhere on the boat(even nonskid), from the water up, except on the swim platform. I had a little bit of Meguairs(black bottle...cant remember the name) left from last year, and I put if on the swim platform, and it was slicker that the non skid on the bow of the boat, where I applied the Leverage polish.

Donnie...I love the product..but do have a question...I applied a second coat to some areas (like the hull sides) and there was even a lighter haze on the second coat....is that normal?

Donnie,

I just read through this whole thread and am very impressed with all the positive feedback. Thanks for the Harbor Freight tip, too! I've often looked at those, but always wondered about durability.

I have typically used Yacht Brite's "Serious Shine" as a maintainer between waxing. I like it since I can use it everywhere. From reading through this thread, I realize I can use your polish as a maintainer, but do you know of any problems with using Serious Shine on top of your polish? Will it attack or degrade your polish?

Also, please forgive me for asking this, but I'm still under the old school "Polish it first, then apply wax to protect" mentality. Your product replaces the old style polish and wax (2 separate products) with one product?

One last question: How about Armada's "Carnauba Wash & Wax", made by Camco? Any experience with that - is it OK with your polish? It states that it is Non-toxic and Biodegradable. http://www.camco.net/Menu.cfm?SupCategoryId=10800&SubCategoryId=287&ProductId=2790

Thanks for your time,
Dennis

Told you it was worth a try!

Kurt...it definitely was worth trying. I couldnt believe how easy it wiped off. Scott stopped by on Friday....to get his A/C charged up. He has a very nice looking boat.

Wetsanding is your next step . I imagine the SR emblem has been on for many years, so you'll need to blend. My OR will remove 1000 grit sanding marks, so you'll need to use it as your compound after wetsanding. Thanks for the feedback and please let me know if you need anything.

I agree on the HB buffers. Been using them for years.

Jeff,

The lighter haze is normal on the second coat, but you really don't need a second coat unless you just like polishing.
Be careful with applying the Polish on the non skid. One mis step and you might me swimming quicker than you want. Thanks for the feedback!

Dennis,

I've never used that soap or the Serious Shine. My Polish is a one step, so no need to use anything on top of it for added protection. You can use the Polish as a maintainer if you want, but the water should still be sheeting off months from now. Your better soap formulas are low suds, so if the one you mention is that way then you should be fine. The SS may affect the longevity of my Polish, but I really can't say without testing.

Hi Donnie
I have used your Oxidation Remover and Polish and am having a hard time getting the shine I anticipated. If I use Starbright PTFE wax on the same areas, the shine is super. Am I doing something wrong? The boat is dry when I am doing the polishing.

Thanks

It sounds like your oxidation is worse than anticipated. Are you using the rotary buffer with a wool pad?

I run into this problem occasionally and it's either that the oxidation is heavier than expected or there's been some type of sealant like PG used on the fiberglass. If it's oxidation then buffing is what I start with and wetsanding is my last option. If it's something similar to PG then acetone is the answer. SB is just temporarily covering up the issue with a product additive shine and making it worse.

I designed my products to be a true reflection not a cover up, so if there's any oxidation or imperfections that weren't removed then you will see them. If the reflection is hazy after you apply the polish then oxidation is still present and you need to go deeper. Please let me know on your progress and if there's anything I can do to help.

So far so good with it on my boat, I did a small section and it looks awesome. I will hopefully get some more done on areas that are in the sun more this week and report how it works!

REALLY REALLY easy to remove the polish which is a feature I love! Stuff goes on and comes off very similar to Klasse that I am used to using on my cars.

Bringing this back to the top...

Curious what people think about the product after a few months have passed...
