How fast is your boat?

2001 230BR, 7.4MPI. B3

WOT measured 47 MPH on GPS, 48 on speedometer, engine turning at 4300 RPM's, this was on the Chesapeake Bay in 2-3 foot seas driven by my boat surveyor. He said on a calmer day with the trim set just right boat would top out at a little over 50.

Wanted to see what others were getting on their speedo. I registered 48mph today and was super happy. Full tank of gas and two people aboard.

Initially, I thought I would only get 40mph tops. But today I messed around, raised the trim a tad and 48 was in sight. Big difference between night and day.

Barely hit 42 per the speedo and I'm in SLC, Utah but boat at about 6500 feet. I was told the boat was setup for altitude so I wasn't very happy with that speed. I haven't had the chance to run GPS to validate speedo. I would say yours is great.

If I grease the hubs good I can do 75mph no problem.

I have no idea, if I give it the gas the Admiral gives me the look so I immediately settle down and cruise at 27 mph which is 3950 rpms consuming 11.4 gph.

At about 3600' and 1' chop my boat will do 47 mph on gps and the speedo shows 46-47 mph.

Me, wife and gear for the day, bimini up catching air, smooth water, very little current since it was high tide, 49 gps.

I've got mine up to 47 GPS with a little help from some head wind. I just got my props reconditioned. Curious to see if it makes any difference. I am not expecting it to, but I will be pleased if there is. The previous owners did run the props in some gravel or something, so there was some little chunks taken out.

4600 rpms, light chop, full fuel and water, 19000+ pounds with a hardtop is 41 MPH on the gps with prop scanned props and a clean bottom.

4800 RPM X 2: 41 MPH on GPS slack tide. 60 GPH.

That's a lot of kinetic energy at 16,000 lbs.

300DA. WOT= 48 MPH (GPS/Smartcraft) During the season after the crud takes hold of the bottom/drives = 45 MPH. Pretty darn good for a boat approaching 7 tons.

That's impressive!

It also brings up a question, I have the 5.0 and the manual says WOT is 4600-5000 RPMs. So what really constitues WOT? How long can you safely run at WOT without damaging something?

well this past weekend we had a storm creep up, i outran it back to the docks at 45-47 or so the speedo says... 5 people onboard.

185 sport w 4.3L

Cant wait for my gps to tell me the truth (thanks jim ;) )

Not very long. Generally, it should be achieved only to measure boat performance and to establish a baseline to determine your max cruise of 75 - 80% WOT.

Well, at least the '05 340s are consistent. I get 41mph (GPS). At that speed, I can see the gas gauge drop as well as feel my wallet get lighter.

I had an overheat problem last summer, and seatrialed the boat with the mechanic aboard. We had it WOT for about a minute before he started worrying about the engines running that hard for too long.

My boat gets to 46mph (GPS) at W.O.T. It's a blast. My jetskis are faster on flat water, but the Searay can get 40+ in 2' short period bay chop while my Jetskis wallow.

I don't think I have ever really run my boat at WOT. Is there a time "amount" that you should or shouldn't run at WOT?

54-55mph is my average WOT top speed with 4 people and a light load - calculated via GPS.

In dead calm water on the Hudson River I ran 57.3 via GPS with 2 people and 1/8 of a tank of fuel - again via GPS.

I notice that I generally pick up about 1-2mph in WOT top speed with the selectable exhauset in the "open" (read "loud") mode.
