How do you guys up north do it?

No, I've accidently done some water skipping (across 20 ft of open water). Didn't do it on purpose and wouldn't want to. Too old and too cold. How about you?

I did once. I made it about 200 feet before I went swimming. Those things are hard to turn on the water. I think the record is 35-40 miles.........................

For some of us, boating is just another thing to do. We dont revolve around it, so dont miss it anymore than in the summer missing going snowmobiling, snowboarding, sledding etc.

I could NEVER live without the winter and snow, personally. I'd miss all the winter fun, so would the kids and my wife. If anything, we are moving up north more when we retire to Winnipesaukee. So all summer we have boating, all winter we have snowmobiling and winter fun.

Ya'll can keep the monotonous slight seasonal change, Ill always be a die-hard New Englander!

That last picture looked like it didn't end well haha.

I can't wait for the boat to hit the water. My snowmobile is acting like my sea-ray was last year. Always wrenching never riding. Its my first sled too. Its enough to make me want to sell it and never buy another one again lol.

re: that last picture... yeah, I think that sled's supposed to be under you, isn't it?

What I did yesterday... Awesome day on the lake!

Some of the smoothest ice I've seen in a while on the lake, miles and miles of it!

We visit the boat throughout the winter and have a few drinks. Patiently waiting for spring.

Honestly, my life does revolve around boating. If I never saw another centimeter of snow I would be a happy camper.

Until then this is how we must cope,

“How do you guys up north do it?”

…the same as you guys down south, just not as long or as frequent ….

Yea, my wife got a great shot of me getting flipped off the sled. It didnt hurt nearly as much as my pride after I told my oldest daughter after she got flipped off that "this is the way you do it".

Nice lake to skate on, VT! That is, well, glassy looking. Sweet!

Snowmobiling??? What the hell is that????

Snowmachining I understand..............:smt038:grin:

 I think up in Alaska is the only place that calls "snowmobiling" something else. Actually, we usually call them "sleds", and "going sledding" but in context here felt it could be confused with riding down hills on plastic.

Whatever ya call it, love doing it as much as boating :)

Easy to cope: just go out in the ple barn and talk to the boat until spring. Water is so great during the summer all is forgiven.

As we were leaving, a group of about 6 folks came off the ice, they'd been skating from about 5 miles away. They had these interesting skates on, that snapped onto the blades like xc-ski boots. The blades were about 15-18" long. They used 2 long xc-type poles to push themselves along with their skating motion down the lake. I'd read about them before, but hadn't seen them in action. The lake was smooth enough as far as you could see for them to do that. A couple miles south of us, we could see people using sails(think sailboarding on ice) and kites (2 different types of propulsion mechanisms) to pull them across the ice at very high speeds. (the wind was maybe 15-20 mph or so) This kind of ice would be excellent for ice racing.

Im so jealous that you guys have such wide expanses of ice! I love bringing the sleds on the frozen lakes up there and opening them up (pic of my wife in previous post ripping). Down here, the ponds and small, non flowing lakes freeze up, but it has been a very long time since the lake we boat on froze enough to carry heavy weight :-(

We hope one day to retire on Winnipesaukee, and that lake gets nice and frozen I have heard as well.

Enjoy it!! Youre lucky!

We call them sleds too. I think you are right about Alaska. I looked on Arctic Cat's website and they call them snowmobiles too!! Go figure..

Nothing better than to have your sweetie out on a frozen lake at night, 20 below zero, turn the engine off and look up at the Northern Lights dancing all around with a wolf howling in the back ground…...

Sweet! Ive never seen the northern lights, that must be amazing in person. I have seen some good videos in HQ, but of course everyone tells me that it isnt even a close representation to seeing it in living color and motion.

Good deal, man, enjoy it!
