How do you guys up north do it?

I use the shrink wrap time to do all of those things that I completely and totally ignored while boating during the summer. You know, finish the trim work in the kitchen, dining room, and bedrooms, painting, fixing everything that broke since April, and last but not least, getting reacquainted with all of my cast iron friends (power tools) that reside in my basement wood shop.

I just returned from a 4 day hunting trip....no cell phone, no computer, (no electricity)...first blizzard of the year (not the DQ type either!) and an 8 pointer for my freezer. Which means summer sausage and jalepeno pepper sticks for this boating season. Hunting will take me through mid January.

Northern boaters UNITE!!! If you read the statistics of how many hours boaters put on their boats per year....guess what??? it is northern boaters! That's right and Florida boaters are'nt even second....the losers lol Ric

Hey Stray, do you make your own venison Summer saus? Have you ever tried fermenting and drying it like a salami, etc? I can hook you up with starter culture, etc....GOOD STUFF.
I love that kind of thing

myself and my buddy who has an 05' 320 mark it off the calender day by day (pretty much wishing our lives away )
we talk bottom paint choice and cleaning methods ohhh and alot of boooze it eases the pain of winter on Long Island. i actually VISIT the boat at least once a week if not more during winter it;s so depressing i find myself talking out loud to it and thats without the booze, anyway it will be here before you know it boys!!!!

It may be cold in the winter but summers are warm. And when you go out the bays are empty. We feel crowded if more than three boats are in the same bay. Plus we got fish and no bugs. Even have cell and internet.

Can't even imagine the scenery My son took me to Seward AK. Camped and went on a boat tour it was the most beautiful area I have ever seen. Not to mention the animal life :wow:

Got in some hunting to make my Summer Brats and Still fishing for Stripers. It's 25 Degrees this morning. It's nice to just pull the 4 blue engine plugs and she's winterized. I'm going out on Saturday. It's nice being the only boat on the water. A few nutty bass boats are out but they aren't bothering anyone. Just hurrying to their spots. I put my camper top up yesterday due to the cold. I'll have to put her to bed Jan. 1st. Then I can cry while doing my neglected house chores. I love being the only boat on the water. We have our alone time. LOL

There is a "ritual" we northern folks go through each fall (September) with winterizing our boats and put our babies to sleep for the winter. We cry a lot too…..and spend our time on CSR.

In February we know the Salmon turn to head for home. Then comes March, the days are getting longer and the Home Winter King Salmon Derby comes up and I tow my river boat the 6 hours south, just for the opportunity to troll for Kings in 33-38f weather.

Then April hits, the snow start melting and the brain start to thaw. Once the snow has melted off the south side of the mountains its black bear season and the start of the boating season, normally around the end of April to Mid-May.

May to September is "balls to the walls" the 100 days of summer and everything is fast forward. The best place on earth......Then winter again and it is time to rest.

BTW what the hell is a "snow mobile?" Do you mean snow machine..

Nice pics, Tom! I can't even imagine what it must be like to boat around that scenery.

We have an email newsletter that goes out every couple of weeks to our customers. The information varies, but check out this one little part of it (it's actually a link to our blog) below. Anyone else ever try this?

http://petersmarine.blogspot.com/2009/12/winter-water-skiing.html

I've water skied in early April (still snow run-off coming off the "mountain"... that would actually be what Tom would call a "mole hill"). Only had a shorty wetsuit... it was a bit cold when I jumped in:wow:

When my son was stationed at Elmendorf they would go to the some river in Anchorage and do Kamikaze fishing for King Salmon I believe. He showed me pictures of what looked like hundreds Fishermen almost shoulder to shoulder fishing. He said the most dangerous thing was the river would raise around 14' when the Tide came in .

The pacific life insurance company commercials they're running remind me of Nehalennia's (Todd) pictures. Not quite the Ohio River!

It is called "Combat Fishing" and you see it at Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage and the Russian River. I will see if I can find a pic or too.

Dennis that is cold skiing for sure. I have done some water skiing on Big Lake at 1 AM, the water was like glass and the water temp was 70f.

BTW: what the heck did I do to this thread? It became real wide......
