I have a small vertical support beam for the bimini just aft of my arch that would make a perfect place to attach a type IV throwable with an attached lanyard / rope.

At the end of the lanyard I have tied a bowline with a loop large enough to allow it to be secured to a cleat or held with a hand.

My goal is to find a type of knot that will allow me to tie the throwable and lanyard neatly coiled such that with one hard tug of the loop the entire thing will detach from the beam and be ready.

If someone is drowning I don’t want to be saying “Hang on, I need to get this knot out first.”

I guess I’m looking for a rip-cord type of knot but I’m not finding this after spending some time on Google.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what type of knot I should use for the above situation?

How about a piece of nylon strap with a canvas twist snap on it. Like the line straps in your transom locker?

This is what I use to tie the cover on the boat.

Excellent! I was trying to figure out a way to describe that. Wasn't coming up with an easy way to do it. We tie all of our covers on like that. Tons of boats - never comes out.

Even knowing this, I'd probably still use a velcro strap.

Maybe you'd want to use "rope in a bag", too? They're meant for throwing - rope won't get tangled up as you try to throw it.

Just make sure you use a soft nylon which is less likely to get tangled. Best of all is to buy the line already in the throw bag...

Take a look at the "Life Sling" man over board recovery system. Its all there, well thought out and you simply attach the whole kit to the boat. Also included is a multi purchase block and tackle so your mate can get your butt back aboard.
