How do I change the radar arch and cockpit lights from white to blue led

While it rarely happens it can occur. In that case just turn them off for a little while (maybe 10-20 seconds) and they will all go back to the starting color.

Ah ok thanks. Didn't know they reverted back after turning them off for a while.

One thing to think about... the blue LED's will attract bugs...

THIS!!!

What color are bug lights? Hmmmmm?????

Oh yes! BLUE!!!

I have singlehandedly converted those with a choice to red lights on my dock. I too love the look of blue lights. I recently left the blue lights on the boat because it was very breezy and cool that night, so a good evening for blue. Wrong, boat covered in bugs. Next evening, warmer and no breeze, red lights, a quarter of the bugs.

Get good LED fixtures to replace rather than cheap LED bulbs to run in fixtures not intended for them.

I have the red/white/blue lights installed. Mine are made by ITC. The red is great for night cruising, white is always useful (a little too bright for entertaining) and as mentioned above, while blue looks cool it attracts bugs so I don't use it. Lumitech makes a great red/white/blue light that is dimmable but they are proud of them. If I were buying again I would probably pay the extra for the lumitechs to get the dimming feature.

I have these and they are worth the cash!

Get the dimming white light.

Great Info,

I think I have narrowed my choice. I am looking at the following Red, blue, white fixture from ITC Marine. I think these are the same light fictures that Kevin C has now? The ITC Marine model # is 69670B.

I am wondering if the "white" light selection of the 69670B will be: less bright? as bright as? or MORE bright? than my current Perko festoon bulb rated at (12V), 10W ????????????????????

I cant figure the conversion of lumens to Watts to determine amount of brightness it will produce......
Ideally I want the ITC Marine fixture's "white" light selection to be brighter than my current Perko 10W incandescent bulb

Will the LED be brighter?

6500K Will be very “cold” white light not the “yellow” light like an incandescent our halogen lamp. You need LEDs around 3200k for the “warm” light you are used to.

I never changed the fixtures but simply replaced the halogen lamps with LEDs from www.marinebeam.com. Was a simple swap. Plug and play. No rewiring needed.

Steve,
The bright "cold" light is OK with me, I will use (cold) white when cleaning up. But use the blue or red for mood.

So,
1. Do you know if the LED's (above) be brighter that the 10W incandescent I have now?

2. Also, are your LEDs that you got from Marinebeam just 1 color? Or are they a tricolor that you can switch between the colors???

The salon and cockpit are solid colors. White and blue. But on my 400DB the cockpit ceiling is RWB changeable

All good info here. Thanks to all for your responses

I am still unclear about about the following and have this outstanding question. The reason I ask is that I don't want to go thru this effort if it does not provide a brighter solution for me.

I am considering the the ITC Marine 69670B, which is a tricolor RBW color option, because it appears to be an easy swap. Remove the old Perko, install the new ITC......... done

Will the "white" light selection of the 69670B be as bright as, or even brighter, than my current Perko 10W festoon bulb's brightness for my cockpit radar arch????

They are brighter than the incandescent lights. They're also a much colder (or "whiter") light.

As mentioned above, they will be brighter than the current lamps. You also will reduce the heat as LEDs produce virtually no heat. Also look at your 12 volt meter before and after... it will barely move with the LEDs.

All positive thing. I have no regrets switching out my lamps.

The lights I linked to, Lumitec, are much brighter, nearly twice. That is why you want dimming on the white light setting that mine have.

They say in the ad 300% brighter than 20w halogen.

I installed the ITCs last summer and love them. Plug and play, an exact fit. So much easier to install than the Lumitec's I did on my last boat...that weren't a direct fit and needed the hole enlarged.

What was so hard about the Lumitec installation? I put them on two boats all I had to do was unscrew the old fixture, cut wires, crimp new wires, they are held by strong springs, no loose hardware. 15 minute upgrade...

They wouldn't fit the light cut out on a prior boat....had to enlarge the hole. ITCs were a super easy swap on my current boat.

They may not have been Lumitec's, these were screwed in.... but this is back in 2012 when I installed those...

I had Perko with festoon bulbs in the arch and attwoods for the courtesy lights (non-festoon) so I converted them all to Perkos. I bought remote control multicolor LED festoon bulbs on ebay and Now I can control every bulb independently up to 28 colors, flash them, fade them. Talk about a party boat. They also stay set to the last color used after you turn them back on. They're fun. Wife likes the purple.
Can you provide the source, part number of your bulbs/controller. etc., please?

OK, so I ordered and have received two ITC Marine tri-color light units for my 340 Sundancer radar arch to replace the Perko (single white color) originals.
The ITC light units are model# 69670B-SS. They are a White, Red and Blue lights and they allow me to toggle, using the on and off switch, between the White, Red and Blue lights options built into the unit.

Here's the problem. The current Perko light units are a 2 wire unit (1 pos, 1 neg). The new OTC Marine lighting units are a 3 wire (2 pos, 1 neg).

My question is, can I splice together the 2 positive wires and connect both to the boat's 1 positive wire???? And if Yes, then will I STILL be able to toggle between the White, Red and Blue colors???

No. The reason there are two positive wires is because one is for red and one for blue or white, whichever is the other color. You’d also need a new switch, which has two on positions.

From the part number you have a blue/white light. The tri-color light that operates on a single switch is 69660SS-RBW. They look identical to each other.

The lights you have require a second switch, one for each colour.

I just spent a few bucks and changed them to blue LEDs. Just bought the LED, with no fixture change, very inexpensive.
I have a really stupid question....I just bought my 2000 310 and both radar arch lights do not go on. I see that it its controlled by the dash switch, however, the fixture itself looks as though it turns. My stupid question is how do I gain access to the bulb without breaking the darn fixture? I've turned it left and right. I don't want to pry it off. Any suggestions?? Thanks
